To take DD to GP for nappy rash?

I know it sounds a bit much but she has about 5 open sores on her bottom. The cream (metanium or sudocreme) won't even stick to those bits because there're too wet. She's doing this awful sour smelling poos which I'm putting down to teething and guessing that's the cause. Would a GP do anything or would I be wasting their time? She's so miserable Sad

Absolutely take your baby for this! You would go to your GP for open sores on an adult! I'm so surprised at responses saying 'just have bare bottom time'

It is nonsense that the GP can only treat infected skin! They will prescribe canesten or fucidin or similar (a mild steroid/antifungal).

Please take you baby asap and don't let the suffer.

We had the same with my DD she said open sores can be a sign of thrush and gave her cream. It worked a treat.

mummyofmoomoos · 27/09/2017 08:34

Ashton and parson teething powders to help calm the acidic poo? And getting the rash checked over would cover all bases- good luck!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/09/2017 08:35

It irks me when people presume they know what a doctor will or won't do. Yes of course take her to be seen,it could be all manner of things and if she has open sores they need to be treated. Hope she's better soon.

Miserylovescompany2 · 27/09/2017 08:37

I wouldn't wait any longer - GP, as it could be fungal/thrush and even if its not? They be able to prescribe stronger creams than you can buy over the counter.

When my dd was about the same age, she developed a really angry looking rash on her bits - screamed when you attempted to clean/change her. I'd tried a few shop bought creams/lotions and they made it worse. Turned out to be thrush.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 27/09/2017 08:38

Please take her. It could be thrush which will clear up in no time with the right cream.

2014newme · 27/09/2017 08:38

Yes take her we had to on one occasion and got some prescription cream.

2014newme · 27/09/2017 08:39

Also don't give her any fruit for a couple days the fruit acid can't help

TomFun · 27/09/2017 08:46

Definitely give the doctors a call for open sores. They might prescribe something to help heal the skin.

Raisinsaretoddlercrack · 27/09/2017 08:50

My DD had this. I felt daft going to the GP for nappy rash too but they took it seriously and didn't make me feel like a paranoid mother. It turned out to be a milk allergy and also thrush which were both treated.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 27/09/2017 08:57

Your GP will be perfectly happy to help with this - I took DS in when he was tiny and it wasn't nearly as bad as yours sounds. If the skin is breaking down, I would definitely get someone to take a look.

Or if you have a drop in HV clinic in your area you could go there, mine was good for things like that.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 27/09/2017 09:59

Thanks for the responses, she has an appointment for later today. I was hesitant because last time I took her to be seen I told it was 'first child syndrome' but logically she should be seen.

Yes absolutely do take her to the GP. That sounds painful and miserable for you too.
The GP can prescribe something called Daktacort (the ointment is better than the cream version )

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 27/09/2017 10:09

Why not try the pharmacist first ? And agree have a couple of days to let it dry out

Poor thing

Crickettime · 27/09/2017 10:12

Definitely see the GP. If there's a candidal infection too they might prescribe canestan cream (plus or minus hydrocortisone) or if it's infected they may even need antibiotics. Am sure the GP will take seriously as it can be awful and is horrible for child to be in discomfort. If they don't take it seriously then might be worth trying a different GP. We have had to take DC for this in the past and GPs were lovely.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 27/09/2017 10:13

I think you're right to see GP but for future ref I found that the yellow metonium with a thin layer of Vaseline on top to keep it in place worked quite well at the first signs of a rash.

purplewaterbottle · 27/09/2017 10:13

Both mine got this really bad as babies, I was always taken seriously by the doctor and prescribed ointments (daktarkin the first time and fucidin the second). I was always told to come back if it didn't improve over x amount of days.
It typically happened out of the blue, it would look like the skin had a chemical burn then would fade into welts and sores, took about a week to get better each time. Never found a cause!

LadyInDread · 27/09/2017 10:17

Hope you get sorted. FWIW my health visitor was able to do a prescription for the best nappy cream ever when DD was like that. I just phoned her and picked it up from the office. Cannot for the life of me remember what it was.

Ellendegeneres · 27/09/2017 10:32

Dc1 had this and several times he had to see dr. But thinking about it, baby was immune compromised, so open wounds had to be seen to anyway.
I think you're doing the right thing going to dr, sometimes it's infected or fungal and infection + faeces is not a combination you want.

elliejjtiny · 27/09/2017 10:54

Ds1 had nappy rash like that at 14 months. His wee was like acid when he was teething (bit of an exaggeration) and a few days later 3 back teeth appeared at the same time.
