AIBU to think that most babies born to older Mum's are boys?

In my own experience and just out and about at preschool and primary it seems that the older mum's predominantly have boys. Does anyone else think the same or do you think it just feels that way as I am old, have two boys and have lost two girls in pregnancy due to abnormalities?

Yup - that's the research I remember reading ages ago @paxillin - thanks for posting.

I also remember googling and reading endlessly after we lost our son at term. Wasn't v helpful but it gave me something to do - so (hugs) OP! I hope you get better news soon!

SnuffleBadger · 26/09/2017 15:20

Not true here......I had DS at 34 then DD at 36!

LittleRen · 26/09/2017 15:28

We aren't ignoring the research, the OP did ask whether we thought the same as her (i.e. the older mums she has seen have boys). So most of us are answering that question, from our own experiences, rather than ignoring the research.

Crumbelina · 26/09/2017 15:32

Can't say I've noticed that pattern amount friends. I had DD1 at 37 and DD2 a week ago at 39.

paxillin · 26/09/2017 15:52

But surely those thoughts are influenced by data? My aunt Mabel's and her neighbour's boys do not add much to studies involving millions. That would be like thinking smoking does not cause cancer because my granny and great uncle as well as my neighbour lived to 90 and smoked.

blueberrypie0112 · 26/09/2017 15:56

Had my son when I was 25, but at 35 I had my daughter

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2017 15:56

I don't think the same as the OP, because scientists depend on data not anecdote. Some thoughts have more factual basis than others. Grin and all the over 35s I know had girls

blueberrypie0112 · 26/09/2017 15:59

I do know someone who had 5 kids from several fathers and age (last one was in her fourty) and every single one of them are girls.

KimmySchmidt1 · 26/09/2017 16:01

Male determines gender (hence Henry VIII being a proper turd for blaming his wives for not giving him a son) so age of mother irrelevant. Age of father might make a difference i sppose.

paxillin · 26/09/2017 16:18

Henry's wives conceived several sons, but they died in in utero, or at or soon after birth though.

Elendon · 26/09/2017 16:23

If you think you are elderly at 35 giving birth, what must you think of someone giving birth at 45?

Brummiegirl15 · 26/09/2017 16:49

So sorry for your loss, it's shitty

I had a little girl at 39 and am 35 weeks pregnant with another girl who will arrive when I'm 41.

I had 3 losses before my little girl and don't know what sex they were, they could've all been boys for all I know and potentially maybe I can't carry boys

Racingraccoons · 26/09/2017 17:04

I had my ds at 18. Most of the older mums I know had girls 🤔

WhataHexIgotinto · 26/09/2017 17:05

Had DS at 39, DD at 41. I don't think there's anything in what you say.

SleepFreeZone · 26/09/2017 18:00

Aaah Brummie we were on the recurrent miscarriage thread together. So pleased you are doing so well 😍💐

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/09/2017 18:06

IVF is more likely to result in a male foetus.

Older women are more likely to have ivf so I think it's probably true.

user1490465531 · 26/09/2017 19:20

I think more girls are born overall.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 26/09/2017 19:23

I was 19 when I had DD, but I'm the only younger mum I know that's had a girl. Every other mum I know that had their babies young (between 20-25) has had boys.

Getout21 · 26/09/2017 19:32

i have sons because I married a billionaire apparently!

Getout21 · 26/09/2017 19:40

But seriously I think it's fascinating that war breeds more boys etc.

Contrary to OP I thought older mothers were more likely to have girls & twins. Although my granny had 4 girls then 2 sons in her 40s 🤷‍♀️

Ithastobeheinz · 26/09/2017 19:56

i had ds1 at 19
ds2 at 20
ds 3 at 28
ds 4 at 35
and dd at 37
so no i cant believe its true

existentialmoment · 26/09/2017 20:01

No, it's a ridiculous assumption based on your extremely limited personal experience and your bias.
You can't actually be serious?
