1.How often do they come?
2.How many hours do they do?
3.What are their tasks?
4.How much do you pay them?

I'm trying to work out wether we can afford it and if it's worth it.

Have a small house (2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and lounge). Currently have 1 DC and 2nd on the way so expecting things to get a bit hectic.

Don't know where to start or what to expect.
My DF(riend) used to have a cleaner who cleaned house top to bottom, put washing on and did set ironing. Is that normal?

Thank s for the replies!

So is £10 p/h considered an OK rate or is it a bit low?

I think it will be a big help to have someone around especially when we have a newborn and a toddler around in a few months but we aren't huge earners so not sure what we can afford just yet.

I was thinking 2 (or 2.5) hours p/w I would like them to clean kitchen, clean bathroom, dust/wipe down surfaces, vacuum house or mop floors depending on how we get on in the week (we have a cordless vac so usually keep on top of floors) and do one odd job depending on week I.e. Windows, inside oven, fridge.
I would also want her to put any clutter/bits away - I have a small basket in each room for any "strays" (odd toys and other pieces that get left behind) so would like her to pop any odd bits in those as she goes.

The lounge and kitchen are small and the bathroom is tiny.

Does that sound reasonable or too much?

I've recently got myself a cleaner - she does 4 hours once a fortnight at £12 an hour. I only have a one bedroom flat but I'm rubbish at cleaning and so it makes sense to get a professional to do it for me. She vacuums, dusts, cleans the bathroom, finishes any washing-up I haven't had time to do, cleans the kitchen (including oven) but I still do my own laundry. I've stopped feeling guilty/lazy for getting a cleaner now. I'm providing work for someone!

5 bedroom house, 3 children, 2 dogs.

5 hours a week. £15 an hour. Couldn't live without it.

Ours is a godsend! She's like part of the family now. Comes once a week for 3 hrs (could do it in less I think) cleans top to bottom of 4 bedroom house. Does such a good job I never have to clean in between visits only tidy. Also feeds cat, puts washing on / away & fits in any extra jobs as asked / needed. She looks after our cat whilst we're away too.
