To not understand spa days

Just seems like an overpriced way to sit in a swimming costume and then have some cream/ oil slapped on your face/ back. Am I just missing the point? 🤔

I love love love them, pure bliss, even better on your own, no mobiles, no emails, no kids! Bliss

Tilapia · 25/09/2017 18:50

I go for one once a year with my best friend. It's not about the treatments for us - it's about having a whole child free day relaxing and chatting and having a nice lunch while our husbands look after the kids Smile

purpleprincess24 · 25/09/2017 18:50

I try to go to Champneys once a year for 3 nights on my own and it's bliss.

I tent to book 3 treatments, a few classes, swim, sauna etc. Although for me one of the best parts is being able to snuggling up on a really comfy sofa in my dressing gown not looking like a total prat.

I've had a few good evenings with total strangers drinking more than the recommended amount of wine.

Food is obviously healthy but also very good (although have been known to pop down the local Indian restaurant 😂)

I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's idea of a perfect break though

Slimthistime · 25/09/2017 18:54

that thalossowotsit they have at Champneys - we need this in London! It's brilliant.

Viviennemary · 25/09/2017 18:54

I agree there are spas and spas. But it's all a matter of taste. I wouldn't like traipsing round a muddy field listening to a deafening rock concert. But lots of people do.

Whinesalot · 25/09/2017 19:01

They leave me quite cold too.
Weekend at a spa or city break. No brainer.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/09/2017 19:10

They sound such a faff. I don't like being touched. I can cope with my hairdresser and the colourist and the junior who shampoos but never take them up on the offer of a head massage.

I was given a gift of a facial treatment once - hated it. A body massage would be hellish.

Although for me one of the best parts is being able to snuggling up on a really comfy sofa in my dressing gown not looking like a total prat

I can do that at home - why would I pay to do it?

City break every time.

gamerwidow · 25/09/2017 19:11

Nope spas leave me cold too. I do not want to spend a day either being wet, sweaty or having someone poke at me. That's not relaxing.
I'd rather everyone else in the house pissed off to a spa and left me unmolested in the house for the day!

flumpybear · 25/09/2017 19:11

Love a spa - relaxification for me Grin couldn't think of anything worse than sightseeing ... I'm such a heathen Confused

BoofayTheOompaLoompaSlayer · 25/09/2017 19:15

Two words: Ragdale Hall.

💆🏼‍♂️💆🏽

Gottagetmoving · 25/09/2017 19:15

Our spa day consisted of sauna, shower, swim, Jacuzzi then aromatherapy massage. It was more a half day but it was lovely. Still felt relaxed days later. Have had three so far but just have friends who have one every month.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 25/09/2017 19:19

Not my cup of tea, but each to their own. My preference for a relaxing weekend is to find a town with interesting shops to potter around, a couple of sights to see, and a range of places to overeat. Nobody will touch me, few people will talk to me, and I don't have to take my clothes off.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 25/09/2017 19:22

There are loads of things people don't get. Hmm I can't see why sitting on an uncomfortable seat and moving my legs in circles is in any way enjoyable...but other people clearly think it is.

Crumbs1 · 25/09/2017 19:23

In fairness they might not talk to you. I've never actually done the splattering greasy smells treatments but two of the girls love them.
I've been to quite smart spas when we've been staying away for work etc Upper House Gothenburg (amazing glass pool 22 floors up), Brimstone in Landgale, Luton Hoo, Lucknam Park, Chewton Glen and we like to spa for an hour or so then get bored. Blue lagoon was better as you could actually swim, there was a pool bar and we could have strange mud fights.

Flumpernickel · 25/09/2017 19:23

I love the swimming, jaccuzi, tepidarium
Etc... but my god, I do not want some randomer lubricating me on a padded gurney, nope nope NOPE.

LakieLady · 25/09/2017 19:24

I love a massage/facial/pedicure etc but the sauna and jacuzzi stuff is a bit meh. I'd rather have a good soak in the tub at home, at least then I can read a book.

shivermytimbers · 25/09/2017 19:26

Yes to city break fans! New town to explore, galleries, shops, restaurants, pubs... definitely more my cup of tea.

plantsitter · 25/09/2017 19:26

God I love a spa day and I'm fat and self conscious in my swimming costume. You swim! You lie about! You get hot! You get steamy! You lie about! You sit in a bubbly bath. Maybe v there's a hilarious shower with all bird noises and thunder. You lie about. It's ace.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/09/2017 19:27

Not my idea of bliss, either. Would far rather lie on the sofa with a good book. Hate the idea of being mauled about by random strangers.

Have had to impress on dds that much as they might like it, a spa day is NOT a present I would ever want.

Parker231 · 25/09/2017 19:27

I love spa days - my favorite relaxation. I go with my girlfriends a few times a year and have done so as far back as pre DC's. A long weekend of being pampered in a lovely place with gorgeous meals.

CatsAreFromOuterSpace · 25/09/2017 19:28

Love the peace

Not having to do anything

shivermytimbers · 25/09/2017 19:28

lubricating me on a padded gurney hahaha Grin

expatinscotland · 25/09/2017 19:29

I don't like being touched, or swimming and just about anything I put on my face breaks me out in spots so no, don't see the appeal of a spa day at all. I've got two days off next month and one of those a mate and I are going to a climbing wall, on the other, another mate and I are climbing Skafell and Skafell Pike. Can't wait!

Niamhisnotarealname · 25/09/2017 19:32

Vivienne I like to do that too! but I wouldn't call it relaxing, you need a spa day AFTER the muddy rock concert. 😁

welshweasel · 25/09/2017 19:33

Spa day not so much but overnight spa breaks are awesome. Lots of chats with friends, plenty of fizz, lunch in your robe, massage, pedicure, lounging in the hot tub, more fizz, reading a magazine, sauna, swim, more fizz....then a slap up dinner with plenty of wine and an early night. What's not to like?!! Clearly not for everyone and the choice of location is important (can't be doing with spas that actually promote healthy living or are alcohol free).
