Can I ask what do you eat for 45-50 a week? That's approx 53p-59p per meal for every meal, I just can't get my head around that! What does your shopping include and what meals does that cover?

I love food and food shopping threads!

TonicAndTonic · 25/09/2017 17:29

About 70 quid a week for 2 adults. Quite a few household products and the odd bottle of wine in that alongside the food. Currently using Asda online for the weekly shop, though about 10 quid of the total is topups at local co-op.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/09/2017 17:30

£120 a week for 4 adults and one very hungry teen. That includes toiletries and cleaning stuff, and covers lunches for 3 of us. I either shop online at Asda, or in person at Aldi, which is cheaper and nicer but then means I have to spend 2-3 hours doing the shop, what with getting there and back.
We do meal plan, and the boys have basic range toiletries.

imjusthereforasec · 25/09/2017 17:35

I'm seconding Hatties post, those spending less than £50 on food what do you eat - I meal plan and try my best but end up running out of food. 2-3 adults and 2 children, lunches for DH too.

Ivy79 · 25/09/2017 17:36

For food alone, and not including detergents, toiletries, smellies, etc, probably about £60-00 to £65.00 a week. (2 adults, kids have left home.) We like nice food, and a decent quality, and won't scrimp on it.

We don't smoke, and we drink alcohol only about once a month, and go to the pub maybe 4 times a year (and out for a meal about 4-5 times a year,) so we don't squander on luxuries. But we do like nice food, and won't compromise, and never buy budget food.

IAmBreakmasterCylinder · 25/09/2017 17:39

About £80 for 3 adults and a 12 year old. I shop in Aldi and my bill is considerably less since I switched from Tesco.

I can do it for as little as £60 if I need to. £80 would probably include wine and treats!

happymumof4crazykids · 25/09/2017 17:40

£150 per week for 2 adults 2 teenage boys and 2 children Angry

NoKidsTwoCats · 25/09/2017 17:43

We spend probably about £60 on average - some weeks it's £40-50 and some it can be £75 or so (if it's one of those weeks when we're out of expensive things like laundry tablets or loo rolls!). That's for two adults and I don't typically do much/anything in terms of top up shops. We use Ocado and they're brilliant.

deadringer · 25/09/2017 17:45

250 euro pw for 5 adults a teen a child and a dog. That includes wine for the weekend and packed lunches every day for 4. I also mind 2 kids so it includes lunch and fruit for them. We would usually do a mini shop at the weekend too, so the real total is closer to 300. It includes toiletries etc which is expensive with mostly females in the house, also food is expensive here in Ireland. We all love our food and use a lot of branded stuff as dh and the DC usually hate the alternatives. I would like to spend less but my mil spends about 200 and there is only two of them!

BoredOnMatLeave · 25/09/2017 17:47

£80-90 pw for me DP and DD (1yo). I just can't get it down no matter what diet we do (currently low carb). Shop at Sainsburys

Stiddleficks · 25/09/2017 17:48

I shop in Aldi and between £40 and £60 for 2 adults, I child and 1 toddler.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 25/09/2017 17:49

Got it down to about £65. Two adults and one toddler. That includes household products too. We get an online Ocado shop at the moment.

gandalf456 · 25/09/2017 17:50

Wow. I thought £100 was the norm

Lionroar · 25/09/2017 17:52

60 most weeks with 2 adults and 1 toddler but once a month spend around 120 that's all cleaning products, toiletries, washing powder etc

Someoneasdumbasthis · 25/09/2017 17:56

£150-200 per week including cleaning stuff, toiletries and wine!! Shop online at Tesco and the local farm shop and butchers. Am not allowed to go into actual supermarkets as last time I tried (at Lidl!!) It was over £300!

HippadoppaloppaGammeldag · 25/09/2017 17:58

LIDL here - about £40 a week, then top up at ASDA, probably another £20-£40. I spend too much, getting nice "extras" from LIDL and things for the DDs from ASDA!

Screamifuwant2gofaster · 25/09/2017 17:59

I spend £30-40 a week on food-partly out of necessity and partly for the challenge.. Shop on asda/ morrisons or Aldi.
Doesn't include any toiletries or non food stuff. I always meal plan.
Just two adults.
Breakfast- Porridge/ toast or scrambled eggs/occasionally cereal.
Lunch-Salad with potatoes, cheese, ham or sandwiches with soup (often homemade).
Tea-Nearly always homemade-lasagne, stew, chilli, sausages mash and beans.
Snacks-crisps, popcorn, fruit, biscuits.
Rarely buy puddings. Once a week or so I make apple crumble or similar.
I batch cook/ use slow cooker. Handful of times a year I do a 'chicken week' (4/5 days on a chicken). I don't throw anything away if I can help it.
I'm not obsessed with special offers but I do check out special offer bit of supermarket and will buy stuff we will use-especially bread-then freeze.
Buy fresh fruit and veg from local grocers-it's better quality and cheaper than supermarket usually.

dontslouchdarling · 25/09/2017 18:00

Usually £100-150 per week for two adults and two children. Usually one big shop plus top ups. Includes nappies, lunches, all toiletries, wine (usually try and get 6 bottles with 25% off at M&S or Tesco). The food budget for a month is £900 but that includes eating out and takeaways.

I do batch cook and cook mostly from scratch. I haven't tried really hard to get it lower as I'm usually within budget and like nice food but I do sometimes shop at Aldi and have to say never really notice a huge difference in cost - I'm probably doing something wrong though Confused

BR62Y · 25/09/2017 18:02

I've no idea to be honest. Probably £100 for 2 adults and small child

Christinayangstwistedsista · 25/09/2017 18:02

How the hell do people do it? I'm around £200 per week for two adults and one DS (12)

tehmina23 · 25/09/2017 18:08

Too much, at my local Tesco (I don't drive) and I'm trying to cut down my bill.

drinkswineoutofamug · 25/09/2017 18:11

About £80 pw for 4 adults and I do a freezer shop £100 at Iceland one a month. But I now have a Costco card so will cut back buying in bulk 🙏🏻

IWouldLikeToKnow · 25/09/2017 18:12

I'm in Ireland and for 2 adults and a 2 yr old we spend €150 + weekly.

Camomila · 25/09/2017 18:23

£50-60 a week. 2 adults and a toddler, main shop at Aldi plus a top up at Tesco or Sainsburies usually.

BitchQueen90 · 25/09/2017 18:25

About £60 a week for me and 4yo DS, I shop at asda. I guess it sounds a lot but we eat meat and fish every day and I'm not one for scrimping on food really, I like to have lots in for snacks.
