To ask for advice on private dental compensation?

Long story short I had a root canal which the original dentist messed up (missed one root completely, very painful process) and had to have the whole thing redone a year later. The dentists who own the practice have redone the work free of charge, which is great, but I am still out the cost of parking, petrol, childcare and hours of lost work (I freelance), not to mention the upset and pain this has caused.

I want to stress I'm NOT a sue-happy compo-Daily Fail-sadface person, but I DO want some financial recompense for this screw up. How do I go about this? I have a review with the dentists this week and plan to ask for some compensation but never having done this before I don't know how much is reasonable to ask.

Any thoughts?

You need a solicitor or similar. Missing a root is relatively common because people often have extra or even partial ones so it would require a more elaborate process to prove any negligence and you'd need that to get compensation. You did well to get the second root canal for free IMHO.

I'm neither a lawyer nor have any medical training beyond a First Aid cert but I can't imagine you'll get anywhere looking for compensation.

You'd need to prove negligence as opposed to something not being done perfectly.

I think you've been treated fairly.

Consult a solicitor, but it sounds like they have done everything they can to rectify it for you. I don't think you will get anywhere with compensation, it's just one of those things.

You won't get compensated legally for lost time. It wouldn't be worth a claim. Only for the work, which they've corrected.
You could ask them at the review in good will
