Threadworms advice

SouthernNorthernGirl · 25/09/2017 07:12

DS2 complained yesterday about an itchy bottom. Turns out he has thread worms, and I checked dd too in the night, she also has them.
I vaguely remember about how to treat them, as DS1 had them. although that was around 7 years ago.

Am I able to send them into school today, or do I need to keep them home until treated?
The school sent a warning letter home pretty much as soon as they started the new term, I think it went into the bin though.

Keep them off to treat them today
I don't understand why you didn't read the letter

Ovex. You'll need to treat the entire household and once again after two weeks. Ovex does 'family packs' of chewable tablets or banana flavoured liquid. Can get it in any pharmacy or boots

Get to the chemist and get some Ovex, you'll need to treat the whole family, make sure you wash bedding and towels too. You'll need to retreat a week later.

Boots do their own version of Ovex which is slightly cheaper.

I'm not sure you need to keep them off school - how old are they? I think I'd ask the school office what they expect.

metalmum15 · 25/09/2017 07:24

I've never heard of anyone being kept off school with them tbh.

Just treat them and send them in as normal.

Cut finger nails super short, get a nail brush. Get Dettol for washing underwear/towels/bedding and do them on a high temp Seth f.

poddige · 25/09/2017 07:27

Unsure about Seth F and if he can offer any help.

Argh, my eldest DC has just started school and I am dreading this and nits! I feel itchy all over reading this thread Sad. useful to know though permanent mental note taken. Ovex. might get some and keep it in the cupboard along with various nit killing chemicals. Confused

SouthernNorthernGirl · 25/09/2017 07:31

I did read the letter. I checked, and neither dc had them, so the letter was thrown at some point whilst sorting through junk mail. If I kept every letter that came home from school regarding contagious info, I'd be overrun with them.

OK, so treat everyone, and blitz the entire house. I won't be able to get any tablets until the shops open, and by then school has started. Do I send in and treat tonight? Or keep them home, treat and send in tomorrow / this afternoon?

Send in as normal. Treat everyone soon as they're home.

Sadly school playdoh/clay/sand etc is where they get it from. So probably won't be the last time you're planning an 8am boil wash frenzy!

Just don't forget to do the repeat treatment in two weeks time!

And make sure everyone wears underwear to bed. Better the eggs go into underwear than bedding. Envy

niamh Don't bother with nit killing chemicals, just good old fashioned conditioner and a nit comb does the trick.

Do not put it in child’s bum though.

Do not put it in childs bum though

Not unless you want their farts to smell really really nice 😉

You probably should have treated them when you got the letter. Wouldn't have saved the eggs being spread around your house.

Keep some ovex in the house ready for next time. I worm mine regular, like I worm the cat regular. Remember you need to treat the whole family, not just the kids.
