Sad Face in the paper.

There's a story in a local rag about someone who's freezer has broken down. Apparently they had frozen 100 ounces of breast milk which had to be thrown out and is apparently 3 months worth?

Apparently £30 comp wasn't enough, cue sad faces and a story to the paper.

AIBU to think that the amount of people complaining to newspapers in an effort to get additional compensation is on the rise? And completely ridiculous?

But how do you put a price on this liquid gold?

Will £1m suffice? Hmm

What will she do with all the £? Put it towards counselling and extra tuition for her child when it grows up to be disturbed and less intelligent because it didn't have breastmilk?

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 22:43

But how do you put a price on this liquid gold?

Whatever 100 ounces of formula costs obviously.

Why are you being particularly knobby about this? It's odd.

Catsize · 24/09/2017 22:43

Another example of royally shit customer service from Curry's. I can understand why she was really insulted. Awful.

Vonklump · 24/09/2017 22:48

I lost months of breast milk I'd stored up. I can't imagine having gone to the paper about it.
Also didn't occur to me to contact the freezer company about it.

I did think the phrase no use crying over spilled milk wasn't written about breast milk though.

selsigfach · 24/09/2017 22:51

I used to donate breastmilk. The milk bank spends £150/litre on testing breastmilk for sick and premature babies, so they obviously think it's worth at least that much.

flimflaminurjams · 24/09/2017 23:04

Tub of formula is £11.00 giving approx. 33 bottles nearly 200 fl oz

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 23:15

There you go, you answered your own question. Well done.

flimflaminurjams · 24/09/2017 23:17

Thanks

Why are you being knobby?

So she's up on the deal. They give her £30. Its going to cost her £11 for a tub, lets give her a bit for the cost of water and electricity so say £15. She's had her 5 mins of fame, got a BF badge and made £15.

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 23:28

Why are you being knobby?

Grin hey that was my line!!

RebelRogue · 25/09/2017 06:48

What would really piss me off is the fact that the only other freezer "they had available for delivery" was 80£ more. So bad service, faulty item AND they wanted her to pay more for the privilege of having a working freezer.
It was only after they were contacted by the paper that they agreed to change the freezer. The 150£ ,breastmilk etc is just waffle.

Notso · 25/09/2017 07:02

Considering you can sell breast milk for average £1-£2.50 an ounce, more if your willing to sell to Men, £30 is rubbish.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/09/2017 09:09

Tbh I think a proper working freezer and a proper apology would suffice, maybe a £50 shopping voucher as a gesture. But they dealt with it badly which is why she's newspapered it. Bo I wouldn't have personally - I didn't want cash or 5 minutes of fame when the hospital defrosted the first 10 days of pumping - so not much volume wise but all the early good stuff and hours away from my critically ill baby.

However the attitude on here that she just "pump more" as if its an unending supply - maybe it was for you but not everyone can keep going very long pumping alone

TammySwansonTwo · 25/09/2017 09:33

"Why doesn't she express more and freeze it again?"

Is this a serious question? I'm assuming you've never pumped longterm? The ignorance of some comments here is truly astonishing. Pumping is incredibly soul destroying, I couldn't pump enough for my twins, let alone extra. I remember early on spilling a bag of 6oz and crying for a full hour, I found pumping complete torture and hated wasting a drop. I would be heartbroken if this happened to me.

Branleuse · 25/09/2017 09:43

if id have been expressing milk and lost it all like that, id have cried. I was very precious about my breastmilk

existentialmoment · 25/09/2017 09:53

1) They paid extra for an install but a freezer is just a plug and go thing, right

Not necessarily. What if it is integrated? You need to put the doors on. It might be one that needs plumbing in to a water line for ice etc.

RebelRogue · 25/09/2017 13:08

The thing is if Currys had been decent the first time she complained, this would not be in the papers now.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 25/09/2017 13:24

They were knobs to leave the FF in the leaving room. Good customer service means you install it and ensure it works fine.

And Currys are knobs for charging her £80 extra for one that works.

So in short - YABU.

MimsyFluff · 25/09/2017 13:33

I think she's not that bright. The new freezer had to be left standing for a while then it has to get to freezing temperature so the milk wouldn't of been able to use because she took it out of the old freezer when the new one was delivered. I'm dyslexic am I reading the article wrong?

LastOneDancing · 25/09/2017 13:43

I wouldn't have time to contact the paper if my 3m worth of tedious pumping had been wasted because I'd still be in the corner crying.

I once knocked over 3oz and I'm still haunted by the memory.
