To be worried sick about war

What with N Korea, Trump, now Iran successfully just tested a missile, i'm seriously worried that we're heading towards disaster, and we're all going to get dragged in. Please tell me we'll be fine.

All these people saying 'why worry over something you can't control'. I never understood that rationale - surely if you can control something, that's when you wouldn't waste time worrying; you'd actually do something about it?

Personally I spend a whole heap of time worrying about things I can't control, but war isn't chief among them, I have to say. However I don't want to sound complacent. I just feel like it would be utter suicide for N. Korea to provoke the US into war. This all feels like brinskmanship to secure their longer-term position; they seem to feel under threat themselves and so they're putting on a big fuck-you display.

The only time i don't worry is when i first wake up in the morning, before i remember about the state of the world. Sad

Same here wildworlds - have not been sleeping, not concentrating at work, extremely anxious. It has prompted me to finally investigate CBT and am waiting to hear back from therapist. I was a child in the 1970s-1980s so not fully aware of what was going on then but Trump scares the hell out of me. I know I need to avoid the news but it's really hard - it's like a self-harming addiction

Putting the Nuclear stuff out the way I grew up in Belfast during the 80s and it was just.....just what it was. Didn't know any different and certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Wouldn't spend my life worrying about it really. Will be what it is.

Worrying won't change it. And in all honesty, if there's a nuclear war, I'd rather die at the start than try and survive the aftermath.

I´m worried if I really think about it, but I choose not to, because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. There are plenty of very intelligent, capable people in positions who can do something about it, so I´m letting them do the worrying and work instead. I reckon they can do fine without my help.

wildworlds · 23/09/2017 21:07

Has anyone got any good tips on how to stop worrying, it's awful, i know there's nothing i can do, and worrying won't change a thing, but how do you do it.

I've got enough immediate problems to worry about :(

If war happens I'll worry about it then in the meantime stockpiling food, water, batteries, torches and cooking fuel

shopthenewcollection · 24/09/2017 19:03

Ronswanson not sure you would actually get a choice though...

I hate it when people say that there's no point in worrying, most of us don't really choose to sadly.
