The joys of easyJet boarding

So I’m sat in the lounge waiting to board. The usual first calls for speedy boarders and passengers with children under 5.

I’m happy to sit and watch, after all I have designated seat and bag small enough to put under seat. The plane will get me on.

So speedy boarders and half the rest get up. Including a family of seven adults with one pre 5 year old. This family are then arguing with others, we’ve got an under 5, we should go first!

Really a total of 7 adults need to board with one child? It looks like child, parents, aunts, uncle and GPS! No one else is old infirm etc.

This could be a lonnnnnnng flight with then saying just push in we should get on first!!

AIBU to say the direct parents get one first and the others just chill!!!

And breathe!

I travel several times per year to the same location, and I spend a lot of time laughing at the tourists on that route. Generally older people who seem to think that their sense of entitlement grows with the arrival of their pension card. I always wait until last to board (only ever have hand luggage small enough to fit under my seat, everything goes in the hold), and find it hilarious watching the 80 year olds standing at the gate for an hour so they are first on the plane (which is already assigned seating). Then they get their knickers in a twist at the other end and stand up as the plane comes to a stop, when it takes another ten minutes for the doors to open due to quarantine clearances that need to be done, then the tourist bureau comes on board and does a spiel before anyone is let off.

But what amuses me the most is when they are all fighting to get into the immigration queues, and then one of the officers grabs a bunch of us locals from the queues and sends us all straight out the door. The amount of pearl clutching and 'it's not fairs' is hilarious.

Chill out people. It's a tropical island, and it's not going anywhere. The whole place runs on island time anyway, and getting stressed and being in a hurry is not going to get you very far.

Midnite Scribbler - you must look very odd, sitting around an airport doing all that laughing.

I always wait till everyone else has boarded because I want my suitcase to be put in the hold for free. Plus if your case is on last, that generally means it'll be first off.

christ why would anyone want to have to sit nicely on a plane with a small child any longer than strictly necessary. i'd be at the back of the queue!

It's ok, the locals and I always find the bar and laugh together.

On a unusually hot day in Manchester in June my Jet2 plane boarded. The usual eager beavers went through and queued in the tunnel. The queue ended up backed up to the gate with about 20 of us still to board. Turned out a last minute problem had developed with the plane and they were held in there for half an hour. The tunnel was like a sauna and people ended up drenched in sweat. One poor lady actually passed out and delayed the plane further, another half an hour or so, while they brought her round and decided whether to let her fly or take off her hold bag.

DP and I remained air conditioned and seated at the gate. I always board last and this confirmed why!

Just done a Ryanair flight to Dublin. We were last on. No queues, straight to our seats - bliss!
