To be amazed at how many christmas themed threads there are?!

Well the active thread list is showing alot more movement in the christmas topic, and I've seen a few in the chat thread recently too!

It's September ffs!!!!

Fair enough if your looking for deals.

But to talk about which wrapping paper theme your going for, or whether or not to do a christmas eve box (whatever the fuck that is!)

I even saw christmas cards in the works the other day.... it gave me slight rage!

Why prolong the experience more than you have to?!

Too many Christmas threads - so you start another one?

LiquoricePickle · 24/09/2017 15:39

I love Christmas threads. I also love the irony of you adding to the Christmas threads.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 24/09/2017 15:45

Birds - absolutely. Rather than descending upon one person at Christmas, our wider family decided a few years ago, go go to a restaurant instead. So that needs to be booked early due to the number of people who go. It varies slightly, depending on work commitments etc, but usually we need a table for at least 12 and if everyone can make it, it's nearer to 20. There are no young children in the family at the moment, but when there were, we bought for everybody else and then just got children's gifts nearer the time.

FindingNemoandDory · 24/09/2017 16:15

I just want to know when I can buy chestnuts to roast!

Birdsgottafly · 24/09/2017 17:04

I've just been updated that two of the events that i'd marked 'interested' on, on FB have sold out. I think more people are looking for things to do, rather than buy.

It's a shame for those that have to wait until December to get their Christmas Rota.

oldlaundbooth · 24/09/2017 17:08

Love Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄

oldlaundbooth · 24/09/2017 17:08

Can't decide whether to do the cake this week or next....

Brittbugs80 · 24/09/2017 17:29

Only on aibu is nbu to criticise the Christmas board for having Christmas posts in September.

I too have my fruit soaking for the Christmas cake because of the length of time it takes to prepare, make and feed.

I've saved money on presents thanks to the tips on the Christmas board and there's nothing wrong with getting things organised leaving December free for enjoying the festivities.

sharksDen · 24/09/2017 17:31

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

We don't officially start talking about it in our house until after Halloween but ...

91 days!!!!!!!!!

speakout · 24/09/2017 17:34

i don't see the problem.
Sometimes it takes planning.
I have just spent £3K this weekend on chritmas craft stuff.

baffledcoconut · 24/09/2017 17:35

I spent July sweating and sorting Christmas. Mainly because if I don't do it then I can't sell shit for Christmas.

Brittbugs80 · 24/09/2017 17:41

I also love how people assume that because I've finished shopping, that everyone is receiving piles of tat! I have 50 people to buy presents for, none of them get that and often get things they've already requested.

Great Nephew for example, my Niece asked for a particular toy for him. I've managed to get it for £10 off.

DH wanted a particular Lego set, I'm ordering it for delivery to our hotel in New York in October, it's £200 cheaper to buy it over there.

I'm only waiting to see what DS asks Father Christmas for Christmas and then once he's decided on that, I start think of birthdays as I have two the start of January including DS.

And of course I buy discounted wrapping paper in sales! Clinton's were down to 20p for 12 metres last year. I've got about 40 rolls in the loft of various designs and bring down a few each year for wrapping.

Cards, I make my own and have already started these as they are time consuming.

I'm definitely showing DH this, he eye rolled at my £15 of white air drying clay I got today for name tags, I told him it was barely anything compared to some!

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2017 17:52

I know people who are making plans for next year's holiday, have friends training for and getting excited about events and competitions and so on. It's no different.

I am planning Christmas. I've ordered food, am plotting homemade decs (including growing certain plants and prepping bulbs), am making gifts which take time and effort but are easily done with a half hour here and there once the DC are asleep. Financially, I'm obliged to spread the cost so shopping is having to happen now.

I love it. It brings me such unbridled, unadulterated joy and believe me, I've needed joy of late.

I'm mindful to post only in the right topic as I do with everything else, I don't harp on in rl and I never, ever mention it where Maryz might hear.

It is neither a worry nor an expense. It's sheer joy.

Oh no it's for my business, I make and sell craft stuff. In the run up to christmas I can sell £400 a day, so I need to order my materials early.

A different world

Threenme · 24/09/2017 18:20

Op do you realise you've started a Christmas thread on which people are now discussing Christmas!

LegoShmego · 24/09/2017 18:29

I saw a fucking christmas tree in a pub window this morning! I'm not kidding!!! I then saw half an aisle in tesco dedicated to christmas chocolate!

Grin maryz Yes 4 months is too sodding long!

I agree special That saving money and not buying random crap over the next 4 months would be enough..... and then not buy even more random bits of crap for christmas!

Yes invisible I really don't get the creepy elf thing, why make more work than needed? I doubt the kids think it's special. It'll be a tradition they'll be happy to forget when they're adults I'm sure.
AAlso invisible I too did vaguely think of it a few weeks back as I was looking at my diary and realised that DH won't actually be here for christmas at all! So started wondering what to do/where to go with the kids. But I've now put that out of my mind and will come up with a plan in DECEMBER!

My kids change their minds every day, and my dd never chooses anything iin a toy shop. She will wander round with grandma and her birthday money and not want anything. So I end up choosing for her and it's usually something useful or consumerable!

I think buying for fifty people is a bit much. That would be a massive chore to me. Do you see all of the 50 people regularly?

We don't buy for anyone over 18 (apart from our own DC) and luckily we don't have a big family.

LegoShmego · 24/09/2017 18:44

Already been pointed out glad Grin

finding I saw some in our local woods the other day Smile

Oh I love christmas too old shocked at the early availability of christmas emojis on mn Also, I made my pudding at the beginning of Dec last year and was good! No need to start too early.

Lol britbugs It was the amount that started cropping up on the active threads page that got me. I didn't realise and still don't really understand why people start planning and talking about so early. Again, yes I understand the financil constraints that some people have. But deciding on a theme, or where you'll be spending christmas? Really?!

Shock speakout I guess the early planners are good for business?

50 people britt why?! Why so many people?

show that's just remined me! I need to get knitting! I vowed last year that I was going to just knit each adult family member a pair of socks, or a hat!

I know three and I'm getting sucked in! Blush

I generally start thinking about what my dd would like earlier in the year and I then put price watches on camelcamelcamel for it and make sure I get the best prices! The prices go up and down so much and I have a hatred of paying more than I have to.

I am also making a barbie clothes advent calendar so needed to order them in advance to allow for the 1 month shipping from China!

Brittbugs80 · 24/09/2017 19:41

Yes we do. 13 of them are the children I babysit for and they get a book each. The works are doing 10 books for £10 or 5 for £5 so I got 15 books for £15. Two are my employers, family, Teacher and TA, After school club staff, Swim teacher and Cubs leaders.

We see them daily if not weekly and they are not huge expensive gifts but a thank for all they do.

Sorry you find it too much though.

FireflyGirl · 24/09/2017 19:42

The Christmas emojis are available all year, they just aren't the default ones until December.

Generally, those of us who like to talk about Christmas all year round do so on the Christmas board. I appreciate there are people who dislike Christmas for whatever reason, and they can choose to hide the Christmas board. That way, MN keeps most of us happy.

A lot of people who are agreeing with OP are not just saying YANBU - they're actually going into details about their Christmas plans. There are so many expectations around Christmas that most people will have thought about it, even if the thought is just 'I'm not making any plans until December'.

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2017 19:44

No need to apologise Brittbugs. Grin

midnightmisssuki · 24/09/2017 19:48

don't see the problem - its not harming anyone is it?! I shop for christmas in the January sales and (shock-horror) have written most of my christmas cards ( i have been on maternity leave). So what though?

I can't wait till its properly winter and we can go and visit the christmas markets. Drink mulled wine and eat so many mince pies and clotted cream.

Just leave people be OP - its not harming anyone!
