Uber has itsbissues but this is ridiculous.

TFL have bowed to Black cab pressure and we will all pay massively for it. Or get mini cabs that are less safe and treat heir drivers worse.

Good. I think uber were not taking responsibility for their drivers and yes, I also backed the black cab drivers who have spent years learning their trade, as opposed to just plugging in a sat nav. I'm pleased with today's result

What's the problem. They've broken various laws/rules and have had their operating licence revoked, just like any other taxi firm. It's a kick in the bum for them to sort out their problems and then they'll get the licence back once they're complaint.

All Uber have to do is appeal - the license revocation will be suspended whilst the appeal is ongoing. Whilst they are appealing, they can address the issues that have caused them to be banned.

I was in the fence about this, until I read about the Met Police concerns

I'm sorry but most mini cab firms treat their drivers worse by don't get inspected so thoroughly. Either be as strict with all or as lax with all.

By father was a black cab driver (and. Score that a mini cab driver). I know their arguments. But they cost too much for ordinary Londoners so it's Uber or mini cab for most of us if we need a taxi.

I think it's an excellent move. Not that crazy about using a service which manages the double whammy of exploiting some drivers whilst failing to properly regulate others.

Furious is a bit extreme, yes. Upset, annoyed, perhaps but furious?

I'd save furious for a real domestic crisis

Maybe it will buck Uber into putting appropriate controls in place to protect customers, then it's a win all around. If the Police have concerns about them then it's reasonable to take this action.

YABU My friend was assaulted by an uber driver and thrown out of the car. Uber did nothing to help.

On the one hand, yes, I'm glad they're cracking down on uber. But then on the other, there are so many dodgy/outright criminal cab firms operation in London that I wonder if it's just bandwagon jumping for the sake of it. What about all the others?

YABVVU to think that TFL have simply bowed to pressure from the Black Cabs - they know it will go to appeal. Or do you think the Courts will bow to Black Cab pressure as well?

Good. They're a bunch of charlatans with bugger all safety checks on their drivers. I can't believe people are dim enough to get into a random car with a stranger.

Hellon - a friend was assaulted and robbed by a mini cab driver. Another was sexually assaulted by one. Many of them have very shady things indeed going on behind the scenes - controlled substances, pimping etc. It's been the case for years.

A lot of drivers are going to be hard hit financially by this move.

They would have invested in their cars and their income has just been stopped overnight.

I think it's a terrible decision.

It's good, and I use Uber. They need to shape up and comply with the rules that all cabs have to.

The police have no reason to downplay this, they need the concerns about safety addressed.

Also very few minI cab drivers pay proper tax. You pay on cash with no receipt. You think they declare that? Of course not but there has been no clamp down.

TfL better have very good evidence of their claims and of fair application of their standards, if they don't the court appeal will be embarrassing for them.

I'm a bit torn on this, I very much doubt they are worse than many other private hire firms (the local ones are run by gangs as money laundering operations), but on the other hand it is deliberately set up to deny their drivers proper employment rights.

I'm pretty sure it will get reversed in the 21 day period.

I'm not happy. I think other mini cabs are just as dangerous if not more so as they don't track their journey.

Also a black cab refused to take me once in the dark when I was alone as the distance was too short (over 2 miles!) An uber wouldn't have left me like that.
