AIBU?

AIBU to say it doesn't change anything?

Either I am missing something or a LOT of people are.
I was waiting for an elevator, I had pushed the call button and this was obvious as it was therefore lit. A man arrives, pushes the button again (ok, maybe he didn't notice the light, fine), after 10sec he went to push it again.
I am seing variations of this daily, either pedestrians pushing the button to cross the street, people calling elevators or people choosing a floor in an elevator.

If the call button is lit, please someone tell me, why do so many people push it again??

Oh and does it make the green light / elevator come faster if you push the button 3-4 times in a row quickly? A lot of people seem to be doing this as well?

I'm a double pressed because I want everyone waiting for the lift to know I've got the biggest dick Grin

I saw someone push the button multiple times in succession on a crossing near me. The lights changed immediately. I have tried this out since and it does work on that particular crossing. Confused

It's just impatience, I think.
But a lift I use lights up once pressed, but it requires a hefty punch to actually work. You could be stood there for 5 minutes before realising you need to give it another jab. So it could be that people are double pressing it to make sure.

I'm not sure why it annoys me, I guess I am annoyed as I want to tell them that it is pointless but I know it would be rude and awkward so I can't.
Anyway, it is true it doesn't make any harm, I'll get over it...

Because lots of lifts have different lights you really can't tell if it's pushed or not from them unless you are familiar with that particular one
Yes absolutely, but I have seen lots of people do it at work, and I have seen them around for a while.

I was wondering about this? Because that would be a good reason!!!
Same for banks of elevators in office buildings, if by pressing the button several times meant the system would send you an elevator faster, I would start doing it as well!
Anybody works for an elevator company?

I double and even gasp triple press the floor or close door button of one particular lift and it works. I've used the lift to the car park for years so I know (I only learned of it in sheer frustration of its slowness after a long, shitty day at work) but people think I'm a right arsehole.

People do it because they've got places to be and people to see, everything these days is quick, quick, quick and how dare a lift not be!
