Seville in August

The kids are going away with grandparents next August so DH and I thought we would take the opportunity to go away ourselves. Seville is on our to do list, we were going to spend a few days there then head to the coast at Cadiz. But people keep telling us it would be hell because of the heat and we wouldn't want to do or see anything apart from the hotel pool! Has anyone been? Is is that bad? TIA

I've been once at Easter and once in October and both times were verging on the 'much too hot' for me, but the October was rather unusual I think in that it was well above 30C. It is worth pointing out though that I HATE the heat. If you like it, I wouldn't have thought it would be that bad. Certainly in the above 30C October, we still managed to walk around and do our sightseeing!

Oh no I hate the heat! I mean I can deal with it but I am not a sun worshipper or anything like that! Might have to think of somewhere else to go. The only plus point is apparently there are way less tourists in August so less queues for everything.

I went in August - it was 39C at 9pm at night!! Mid 40s in the day. It was unbearably hot. That area is known as the frying pan of Spain. Nothing like being at the coast in the heat. If you struggle in the heat, think again.

If you do brave it in August, I would strongly recommend staying in a hotel with a pool.

I went in late October last year and it was gorgeous. Lots of Spanish holiday makers there. They clearly know to avoid august.

Seriously it will be like an oven.

NaiceToMeetYou · 21/09/2017 11:57

Yep, Seville is very very hot in August. If you don't like the heat then it's a definite no.

ooooopsupsideyahead · 21/09/2017 11:58

Used to live in Seville.

Steer clear in augusy

ooooopsupsideyahead · 21/09/2017 11:59

Ps if you have a car then there's a resort called Matalascañas about an hours drive. It's on the Costa de la Luz. No brits and it's wonderful

LuckyAmy1986 · 21/09/2017 13:24

Thanks everyone, think we will swerve it then. If anyone has any recommendations of where to go preferably in Europe in August that would be great. Looking at around 5-7 days, wouldn't mind travelling a little, going to one place then taking a train to somewhere after a couple of days.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 21/09/2017 18:43

PalacePalacePalace · 21/09/2017 18:47

oooooooop me and my now dh first holiday together was at Matalascañas. We loved it in October. Happy memories!

taratill · 21/09/2017 18:49

Way too hot.

How about Sweden, Stockholm is beautiful, you could travel within Sweden or up to Norway.

ooooopsupsideyahead · 21/09/2017 18:54

palace

It's lovely isn't it? Very Spanish!

itsgood2talk · 21/09/2017 19:00

I'd recommend Budapest, love it there and great weather in august but not too hot

toconclude · 21/09/2017 19:00

Sweden? Well, if you don't mind remortgaging...all of Scandinavia is stonkingly expensive!

taratill · 21/09/2017 19:12

toconclude It's a bit of a myth, much more affordable than I thought it would be. With the way the Euro is at the moment no where is cheap.

balsamicbarbara · 21/09/2017 19:37

Bear in mind people live and work permanently in Seville and even warmer places. If you're merely on holiday it's not that bad. In a suit maybe not.

LuckyAmy1986 · 21/09/2017 20:34

Well yes but they would be used to the heat surely. Thanks for all the ideas. Looking into them! Matalascanas looks beautiful!
