To think beauty salons should have New Client forms?

Last week I went to a salon in a nearby town for a gel nail soak off, it was my first visit there. With first visits to previous salons I have always been asked to fill out a new client form, but not at this particular salon. Not sure what is normal practice in salons or if it's a legal requirement to keep client records?

Yes they should always have a new form. Covering your health and contra-indications etc. It's to cover themselves legally for insurance purposes. And for the health and safety of clients. It also helps build a rapport and is good practice. Great for developing your business too so seems crazy not to do.

Thank you. I will go back next week for an eyebrow thread to see if they ask me to complete a form...but if not then chances are I won't go back after that.

I've done that for facials but not haircuts etc.

Allwashedup if they don't do a form id walk out before getting it done. It's really important for an eye brow wax as certain drugs and illnesses can thin the skin would be a contra indication. Also it shows they haven't done it on others who could have had something contagious and personally in my opinion if they are slack with that side of their health and safety to cut corners. I'd not be trusting their hygiene in terms of double dipping in the wax.

I've never had to fill in a form for a beauty treatment! Is it a recent thing?

Mama no it's not. I did my training over nine years ago. Any reputable salon would do it. It covers your back with insurance if a customer has a reaction.

GotToGetMyFingerOut, thank you, you have confirmed what I was thinking. I seem to recall that years ago as a new client at a salon, again I didn't have to fill in a form and the salon had very shoddy hygiene practices and still has very bad reviews because of double dipping etc.
The one I went to last week makes a big deal on their website and social media about how they have top levels of hygiene, cleanliness etc but the waiting area was quite dusty and cluttered...this probably wasn't a good sign in itself, so I probably won't return at all now. Will keep looking for a new favourite salon! (We have recently relocated to a completely new area).

Do you really need to fill in a form to mitigate H&S litigation before having your gel nail polish removed?

I find it hard to comment without sounding like a Daily Mail reader but Jesus fucking Christ!

I circulate between five different salons in London for wax/gels/hair (whichever has the time I want/best price at the time). Have never signed a form. Interesting!

I've never had to fill in a form for eyebrow shaping. Always for massage, but not for that. I doubt it's required or even considered best practice - hard to think of any medical conditions which wouldn't be visible that could make an eyebrow shape dangerous...

Dailymail actually there's certain medications that thin the skin around the eyes and we are advised not to wax due to causing a negative reaction. You also need to make sure people haven't had things like conjunctivitis, impetigo recently and also to make sure they have never had a negative reaction to a wax before.

I have a card that's updated every time I go but not by me. I sign it before facials and massages but they record every treatment (so eyebrow shape and tint, 1/2 leg wax, bikini line and underarm wax) then they record each time my Calgel nails go on, filled in and soaked off then I have to sign for facials and massages. They also record what products I buy and products they use.

I thought it was standard but I remember going into a salon for 1/2 leg wax. Never been there before but didn't sign everything and the salon was awful! They had a microwave in the room and used the veet heat up wax stuff! I made them stop after one leg as it was too feckin painful! They charged a fiver for 1/2 leg wax and shells nails for £4!! My friend went there to have eye lash extensions, absolutely raved about them but they couldn't for her in for their removal so I recommended the place I went to. They couldn't get them off properly as the veet wax place had used super glue to stick them on!

Scarily, they are still open and running!
