To ask what your electricity usage is?

Looking for some comparisons before I phone to ask questions...

Got a new meter installed in February - moved from prepay to standard meter. Prepay was costing less that £50 per month (I topped up £49 every month and then every 4/5 months there was enough credit built up that I could miss a month). Since installing the new meter I am paying more than £50 per month - closer to £60.

Taking into account the difference in the tariffs it appears that my usage has gone from ave 4.5kwh per day (November to February) to 10.5kwh average per day from February to mid-August. Just done a reading today and the average is now sitting at 8.5 per day. This is for a 2 bed flat, electric used for all cooking but no heating. That said, we were using the electric immersion/fan heater over some of the summer which would explain some of the increase - but neither have been used since the end of July. No change in tumble drier/washing machine/dishwasher usage.

The figures for the last month are really concerning me - we were away for two weekends of the month so no use at all (most of our cooking is done at weekend) and there has been absolutely no use of immersion/fan heater in that time. I've also returned to work after the school holidays so no daytime weekday usage - in Scotland so the lights had to be on a fair bit during the day!

Can anyone suggest why my usage looks like it may have doubled? There were huge issues with the meter install and the initial readings; I am now questioning whether it is working correctly.

Hopeful bump for lunchtime... know it's not the most interesting topic!

Just looking at my smart meter for you. Over the past week highest has been 8.3 kWh and lowest 2.64 kWh. I have no idea what was different about those days so totally no help to you whatsoever.

Although I think our electric shower uses quite a lot so the lowest day might have been a smelly day!

Thanks! No electric shower.

I thought they might have installed a smart meter when they put this in but unfortunately not!

Thats quite alright.

Just to add, if you think it's unusual usage and all electric use has stayed roughly the same (your OP made me actually figure out all the different readings/settings etc and month by month it is pretty similar despite the contrasting use during a week) speak to your provider with your concerns.

Approx 13kWh a day but I live in an all electric 1 bed house (only have electric heating in the bathroom on), cook every day using the oven most days, heat water by immersion (timer controlled so it doesn't run all day), have an electric shower and use the washing machine 3-4 times a week.

I am on a prepayment meter. I live alone, don't have a tumble dryer or dishwasher, but do have a washing machine,fridge/freezer,tropical fish tank. I put about £10 a week on my electric meter in summer, probably a bit more in winter, about £12,as I have a small oil-filled radiator for my bedroom, which I have on for about 2 hours most evenings,to save putting the heating on for the whole house.

About £100 a quarter give or take. But I've had plenty of arguments with the supplier as my bills make no sense. Never had it resolved.

About 7 a day - lights, TV , freezer, fridge, dishwasher, washing.machine, occasional oven. All else oil or gas.

BTW no smart meter, just a notebook and a calculator.

Thanks all. Maybe sounds like my 4.5 was on the low side. Could they come after me for underpaying last year?
