Decided i fancy a new purse. Would like a pink small leather one. Coin purse really as hate bulky ones. Look online at john lewis two fit the bill. One is john lewis own brand. £20. OTHER is Mulberry. £110.

It's technically just a thing to store money in. It makes no logical sense to buy the more expensive one except for the little writing on the front. I can afford either.

So why does my heart want to Mulberry one? Is it to to do with status envy? I think I'll be happier if had the more expensive one...but that surely makes no logical sense

If that's what floats your boat but is mulberry actually a thing? I mean it's not Burberry or Chanel or any other easily identifiable 'expensive/statusy' brand. If it alters your perception at all I wouldn't see a mulberry purse and think anything in particular about it. I have never herd of the mulberry thing, for all I know it could've from primary. If I saw a John Lewis one I would how that it came fro John Lewis butagain nkr much to think. If you can afford both do what you like but think of the opportunity cost. Non-descript pink purse or non-descript pink purse + £90 for a dress/shirt/manicure/box of chocolate/whatever.

Mulberry is most definitely a "thing".

Buy the Mulberry one, you can afford it and it's the one you prefer. Happy shopping!

I seriously doubt there's a marked difference in quality between the two (it'll mostly be brand mark-up by Mulberry). That's not to say you shouldn't buy the Mulberry one if you love it and can afford it.

BUT I really like the idea above that you should consider the JL one as coming with £90 in it that you 'saved'. If you genuinely can afford the Mulberry one, but don't feel super-strongly that you must have it over the JL one, why don't you get the JL one, put £90 in it and take yourself shopping straightaway for something else lovely you'll enjoy?

Oops. Apologies for double-post.

A Mulberry purse and bag would make me happy.
Proof positive that, for me, money can buy happiness.

Saving things for best seems to me an incredibly depressing way to live your life. I'm very much one for using and enjoying the nice china, the expensive makeup, the designer handbag. Go buy the Mulberry one, OP!

Life is for living, use the things you love.
Absolutely fine, each to their own, but don't go crying if things go wrong.

I personally don't have an issue with people who prefer to live for the present -although frankly, I find spending that amount of money totally frivolous, and yes, the only reason you want it is for status and to evoke envy on similar type of people who crave status-. However, I resent same people who when the consequence of the choices have come to bit us, expect us to treat them like victims.
