As a teen I basically neglected my facial skincare apart from washing makeup off, and I rarely got any spots at all and had quite good skin, which has continued since then. However, I decided to start doing a skincare routine in the hope that it could help me avoid wrinkles etc as I get older. Two days into it and my face has quite a few small spots on it, the first in months! Before you say everything is too oily etc, I'm using a tiny amount of a light moisturiser, and a Simple facial wash aimed at teens (didn't realise until I was out of the shop Blush).
AIBU to never bother washing my face again?

It will definitely be the change of it all I'd say. Introducing any new products generally has a negative (but temporary) effect.

The most important thing for avoiding wrinkles is to protect from UV damage by wearing moisturiser with sunscreen every day and using sunglasses a lot.

Doesn't have to be expensive - I've never spent more than about a fiver on a pot of cream - whatever is on offer in Boots or Wilkos basically and I'm wrinkle free in my mid 40s.

Even if the moisturiser is light, your skin might not like something that's in it, like shea butter (even very light ones sometimes have this) or silicones. Which moisturiser is it? Your skin shouldn't break out just because of a change of routine. Agree with PP - ditch the face wash and get a cleanser.

Thanks for all replies, BarabaraofSeville, are there any sunscreen moisturisers you recommend?

Oh God, skincare is an absolute minefield. Basically, there are next to no legal guidelines when it comes to labelling whatever gloop you put on your face - as long as it isn't actually toxic and 100 people don't react to it when they're testing it, it's 'dermatologically tested'. 'Simple' is a brand name, not a trade description. Ingredients with fancy names tend to be perfume oils or some sort of fairly ordinary moisturising substance. (When I'm bored I sometimes try and match up Q10 or Boswelox or whatever with the ingredients on the side. Not that easy. Grin ) Definitely buyer beware.

My guess is that the face wash has ingredients in it that are roughly similar to washing up liquid, and are about as good for your skin. Less is more here. If you want to experiment, go gently with small amounts of trial size product one at a time, so you can see what you do and don't react to.

I spend £50 on my cleanser, £42 on day moisturiser, £42 on exfoliant and £16 on rose hip oil.

All my products are Paraben free and organic and have cleared up my Rosacea. The cleanser for example I purchased in January this year and I've got a quarter of the bottle left. I probably buy the products once a year.

I cleanse and moisturise in the morning every day, cleanse and oil on the evening and exfoliate once week.

I also wear factor 50 sunscreen on my face, neck and hands in the winter and all over in the summer. I've no wrinkles or fine lines.
