AIBU to wonder what you do with the cleaning cloths? Surely you can't wash them everyday but then don't they sit around and fester throughout the week?

I have a built in hot press in my family bathroom for towels, loo rolls and a towel laundry basket in a divided cubby. I had the joiner add a little rail so I could dry damp cloths.

I rinse cloths out after every use (no matter where I'm cleaning - because it will be easier to get the dirt out) and usually allow them to dry out in the press and chuck them into the wash when I need to make up a load.

FlandersRocks · 20/09/2017 10:57

Nake I agree.

Things get cleaned when they need cleaning - unless you live like pigs and spray urine and smear poo everywhere, a bathroom doesn't need to be deep cleaned daily.

PeaceAndLove1 · 20/09/2017 10:58

I don't clean my bathroom everyday, might do the sink one day, the toilet another, I do clean the bath out after every use though, I don't have a bath/shower everyday either, anyway, the cloth, it's one of those blue dish cloth type cloths, it gets swilled out, wringed out, then hung across the side of the bath. I don't get this washing machine washing business, the cloth has had cleaning solution all through it, it is washed!

PeaceAndLove1 · 20/09/2017 11:02

might do the sink one day, the toilet anotherShould have said, with many days in between.

OurMiracle1106 · 20/09/2017 11:04

I have a sponge for my bathroom. Squirt Some cleaner round the bath. Wipe and rinse with shower hose

TipTopTipTopClop · 20/09/2017 11:08

I have an enormous store of rags, I rinse them and put them in the laundry basket and they go in the next hot wash.

My rags have zero impact on my washing rota.

MickeyLuv · 20/09/2017 11:10

Again, slightly off topic but..

I do 2-4 washes per day so I always have loads of cloths clean and ready to use

People seriously do this many washes per day? Every day? 14-28 washes per week? What on earth are you washing (other than cleaning cloths Wink)

PickAChew · 20/09/2017 11:17

I just wash with a cellulose sponge, which gets rinsed out and put out to dry and wipe over with an old teatowel or muslin cloth. They get lobbed over the shower rail to dry and chucked in the wash the next time I wah towels.

I clean the loo seat with a disposable wipe and use a bog rush for the bowl.

PickAChew · 20/09/2017 11:18

And I only deep clean the bathroom weekly. Mess gets cleaned up as and when.

ProfessorCat · 20/09/2017 11:18

@MickeyLuv

That blows my mind. I think we do 3 washes a week. One for towels and bedding, one for underwear/socks/uniform and the other for clothes that aren't in the middle wash.

I fear the ones who do that many washes are those who change towels and beds daily and have no concern for the environment.

Nakedavenger74 · 20/09/2017 11:19

@MickeyLuv Quite. I feel guilty at the two washes a week we do! I'm also truly shocked that people wash towels more than once a week and a cleaning cloth sees the inside of a washing machine errr ever.

This reminds me of the sinking feeling I have at the supermarket when I've brought my own bags or squeezed everything into one bulging bag and the arsehole behind me double bags everything and half fills them for the 15 second trip to the car.

kmc1111 · 20/09/2017 11:24

Not everyone has a massive washer. I can get 1-1 and a half sets of bedding in mine. I certainly couldn't put everyone's bedding plus a weeks towels in the same load. That's like 5-6 loads for my washer.

SignoraCarmignola · 20/09/2017 11:29

I'm with Catwithglasses on cleaning after every use. I can sort of get doing a quick swipe every day, but...Shock

As for doing between 14 and 28 washes per week.

Proudmummytodc2 · 20/09/2017 11:29

I throw away my cleaning cloths everyday I never re-use a cloths always just habit I prefer to just use new cloths but I have a compromised immune system so I don't like to think of germs sitting on anything even if it's washed so I use new stuff everyday, but I'm probably one of few of people who do that.

PoppyPopcorn · 20/09/2017 11:30

After several threads on here I thought I'd better up my game and clean the sink/shower more regularly

But WHY???? Quite frankly I think the daily towel washers, anti-bac addicts and people who get through 6 bottles of bleach a day are bonkers. Certainly doesn't make me want to "up my game".

guilty100 · 20/09/2017 11:30

I have a pile of microfibre clothes, and they get washed after one use because they only really work when spankingly clean and relatively dry. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I find a used cloth deposits nearly as much dust as it removes.

moggle · 20/09/2017 11:32

I don't clean anything every day except my body and teeth... But in the kitchen I use microfibre cloths to wipe DD after meals and wipe down surfaces etc (separate cloths...), and when deemed too used for further use they are rinsed, squeezed out and then go into a plastic bag hanging off a cupboard knob and get washed once a week in a towel wash (same as a normal wash just no softener...). I'm always amazed that they can sit there scrunched up and quite wet, probably with food residue still on, for up to a week and they never ever go mouldy. Must be because they're totally synthetic? I remember DD's cotton dribble bibs used to go mouldy in a couple of days if left in a change bag.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 20/09/2017 11:34

poppy I absolutely agree, I'm talking about a wipe down with a microfibre cloth (no chemicals at all).

OP posts:
Dawnedlightly · 20/09/2017 11:35

I put a microfibre cloth in every wash anyway- even if I don't have a dirty one Shock
I'm sure I read here that they pick up lint and fluff in the wash.

Mxyzptlk · 20/09/2017 11:37

I use the FlyLady swish and swipe method, with paper towel.
www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/july/
I have a bath sponge (scrubby on one side) which sits on the side of the bath looking like a normal sponge. The bath gets a wipe round with that, most times it's used.

I'm a bit of a scruff but am horrified by the posters who put the bathroom cloth in the kitchen or clean the sink & floor in the bathroom then keep the cloth without washing, to use again. Shock

Newtssuitcase · 20/09/2017 11:39

If its just a brief wipe down then I would use the cloth rinse it and then hang it to dry over the tap in the laundry room sink.

Dishcloths and dirty tea towels go into the washing machine at the end of the day to join the next wash (which is most days). A dishcloth and a tea towel is not destroying the environment.

musicposy · 20/09/2017 11:43

I clean with wet wipes so they get thrown away.

Before anyone goes on at me for being environmentally unfriendly, I don't clean the bathroom much apart from the toilet. A pack of wipes lasts a long, long time 😆

e1y1 · 20/09/2017 11:45

Oh not another thread about a wash a day single handedly bringin the planet to it's knees.

Usually said by the same people who jump in a car to drive a mile, get on planes, buy more clothes and food than they could ever use and with umpteen different gadgets that all consume electricity.

e1y1 · 20/09/2017 11:45

That's closer to my way of thinking, too. Nor am I so aesthetically delicate that my senses are offended by the sight of a rinsed-out cloth drying in the bathroom. It is what it is.
