To ask DP to hover sometimes?

Asking as we've just had yet another silly argument about hoovering!

Every single time I ask DP to hoover it very quickly descends into a barrage of excuses as to why he shouldn't do it.

Then it often turns into a full blown row where afterwards he sulks for hours.

I ask him about once a month. I hoover every week or two, so not that often.

Anyway, he's out sulking in the garden whilst I have a very large glass of wine Wine

The hoover has been abandoned in the front room..

There is a quid pro quo here. You pay less towards the bills and he does less housework. You could split it all evenly if you preferred.

Only a wanker, or someone who imagines that people exclusively couple up with others on exactly the same salary as themselves, thinks that this is how finances are split in the real world. The OP has said nothing about working less hard or fewer hours than her DP.

RedSkyAtNight · 20/09/2017 12:05

The amount they earn doesn't matter.

However if DP's higher salary is because he is out of the house from 7-7 whilst OP only works a 15 hour week, then OP should be doing more housework.

balsamicbarbara · 20/09/2017 14:37

I assumed if she contributes less to the bills, she probably works less too - it feels a bit sexist to assume a woman earns less if working as hard. Though I admit OP didn't say whether that was the case.

Thanks everyone, I do appreciate everybody taking the time to reply.

For those who are asking, we both work full time in the same job role, just in different areas. Although he does earn slightly more than me because he's been with the company for longer.

We're moving house in a few months so the next property will be in both our names. I will feel much more secure then..

So an update.. he hoovered! Begrudgingly. But he hoovered.

Another month down..

I think I might just have to buy a Roomba anyway Grin

Notevilstepmother · 21/09/2017 11:03

If you do get a roomba, don't leave it unattended with pets.

Don't click the link if pictures of poo will upset you.

Did you cheer and pour him a beer? Call the papers? Man hoovers Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/09/2017 15:04

it feels a bit sexist to assume a woman earns less if working as hard It's sexist to pay women less for the same job and yet it happens.

OP, buy him a Roomba for his Christmas present!
