To be worried about these text messages

For the last year I have been receiving text messages. Apparently from Next, about my account and the balance that needs to paid and that it is overdue etc. I don't have a next account so have never phoned the number or clicked on the link in the message as I presumed it was spam/phishing but they're getting more and more frequent. Surely spammers would have given up by now? I haven't received anything in the post or by email. It's just text messages.
Has anyone had the same or similar messages as I'm starting to get paranoid about identity fraud etc which is ridiculous I know!

I'm currently on live chat. They keep asking for my account number/postcode/name etc. I don't want to give out anymore information thannthey already have as this isn't even my account.

Just tell them that that won't actually help them as the phone number is not linked to your account.

Dizzybintess · 19/09/2017 12:52

I would say ring rather than live chat

hellsbellsmelons · 19/09/2017 12:53

Phone the number and talk to them.
They won't be able to identify you if you don't give them that information.
They will need your address.
Then they can see if the number is linked to your address.
Job done!

CiderwithBuda · 19/09/2017 12:53

But I suppose you name and postcode will at least show them you don't have an account.

guilty100 · 19/09/2017 12:55

Get a phone number from the official website. Make sure you check the URL. Ring it, and you can be sure you're through to the official customer helpline. It will be safe to give them your address and you can clear up this whole mess.

Not wanting to sound like a moody cow, but didn't you think of just calling them when you got the second text?

CiderwithBuda · 19/09/2017 12:57

If you don't have an account they can verify that by having your name and postcode though.

witchofzog · 19/09/2017 12:58

Ring them. Don't live chat and don't rely on internet strangers to advise you. Get it from the horses mouth by calling their general customer service number. You could have sorted this in the time it has taken to ask on here and reply to posts

I have had this a number of times due to some idiot that doesn't know their own email address. Do not give them your personal details and keep asking to be escalated to a supervisor. When they refuse to continue without you verifying details that you can't verify, start calling them out on social media - that's the only way that I've ever found to attract the attention of someone who actually understands and can fix the problem.

Easier if you have a big twitter following, mind you.

thesqueezedlemon · 19/09/2017 12:59

How do I request a call back without calling them. I'm not phoning what I think is a premium rate number.

PizzaPower · 19/09/2017 13:01

Obviously better to check with Next. But you could always just block the number on your phone and then forget all about it.

justalittlelemondrizzle · 19/09/2017 13:19

Phoned them and managed to get through to someone without giving any of my other details. They've removed my phone number but just sent me this text where it says it's been removed from 'my account.' Grr

I would have just called them after the first message if it didn't relate to you - don't ever go through links - as other said, always go on their own website and ring and sort things out straight away
