My neighbour does this all the time. Lots of kids play in our street (the woman who does this doesn't have kids herself). She regularly turns into the road and is looking at her phone not the road.

I don't know her (she's not lived here long and is out a lot so not managed to say 'hi' yet). I'm thinking of just talking to her directly (but am crap at confrontation and feel I might just come across as arsy without meaning too) or sticking a note through her door. I also wondered about ring 101. But would they do anything? Has anyone done this and what response did you get from the police?

Thanks

Anyone?

I wouldn't bother tbh

Desmondo2016 · 18/09/2017 21:10

Unless witnessed by police it's going to be nigh on impossible to get it to court so I wouldn't bother.

ivykaty44 · 18/09/2017 21:14

It's ok if she kills a child then she'll get a slap in the wrist. Best not to let children play out as you'll get the blame as a feckless mother if they get killed - you know what the press are like

Send notes to all neighbours warning them

Unless you live in West Midlands

Then report to police as they will take action

ivykaty44 · 18/09/2017 21:20

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/news/london/40-cyclists-killed-4-drivers-jailed-exclusive-investigation-reveals-only-one-in-10-drivers-are-9034187.html%3famp

This is for cyclists

The figure is higher for pedestrians, more killed and more motorist walk free. This is due to more pedestrians being injured and killed than cyclists and that's just on the pavement

TBH none cares if you kill using a car as it's considered normal

megletthesecond · 18/09/2017 21:28

I'd seen her do it a few times but I finally walked past my neighbour when she was about to pull off the drive on her phone (not moving forward) and I bellowed at her to put it down. I never saw her do it again and we weren't friends in the first place anyway.

I've reported business drivers on their phone to their head offices. Not heard anything back except a thank you and we take this very seriously message.

MagicMarkers · 18/09/2017 21:29

DH uses a helmet cam on his cycle commute. He often sees drivers on their phone. One woman was using a phone and a tablet! DH sends the videos to the Police and these drivers get points on their licence. DH gets told what happens in the cases he reports. Google "Met Police Report a Crime".

Can you video her?

GoodMorning1 · 18/09/2017 21:32

Thanks. Yep - I've been thinking it's not worth contacting the police, but wanted to see if anyone had tried and what had happened.

Ivy - what happens in the West Midlands?

Thanks for the article link - I cycle a lot and the behaviour of a large minority of car drivers towards cyclists does my head in. The info in the article is sad but doesn't surprise me at all.

If anything else caused the problems cars do (air pollution and resultant premature deaths, injuries and deaths in accidents, loads of animals killed, makes it hard for kids to play out etc etc) it would be banned.

The West Midlands police will act on information and go and make their own investigation

this leads to motorist speeding or using mobile phones being caught and points issued and fined by the police

Skarossinkplunger · 19/09/2017 07:08

It's poor behaviour but why did you have to point out she was childless?

StickThatInYourPipe · 19/09/2017 07:23

Skarossinkplunger Lesser human beings obviously don't give a shit about the safety of others innit!

PurpleDaisies · 19/09/2017 07:26

It's poor behaviour but why did you have to point out she was childless?

Agreed. It's not relevant in the slightest.

If it were a man doing this I bet nobody would think to mention whether he had kids or not.

Brittbugs80 · 19/09/2017 07:29

Not all the time. I had to swerve to avoid someone who had drifted into my lane why texting. Gave her number plate and car make to the Police and advised them I had it on my dash cam. Was told they can't use my dash cam as evidence and that it was my word against hers. They didn't even find out who was driving the car, in fact I got no further than the front desk.

WMP are either understaffed or useless and I say that with friends in the force. My son got attacked, by an older child and they told myself and the school it was "just boys being boys"

I have no faith in them.

Bananmanfan · 19/09/2017 07:32

I think you should report it to 101, they can decide what to do with the information. They can look out for her number plate if they take it seriously. DH was pulled over as his number plate had come up as no MOT, luckily it was MOT'd, the garage hadn't updated the online system.

orangeowls · 19/09/2017 07:40

I'd definitely report it, even if nothing happens.

TDHManchester · 19/09/2017 07:50

Leave it to the Police. Why even single out mobile phones? what about someone doing their make up,reading a book, eating a banana or changing the CD in their cd player? The list goes on . Also why do people always bring children into things? An injured or dead body is just the same regardless of age. Every life is valuable.

Thats what the UK has become. An uptight, over crowded nation of snitches where some people try to climb to the top of the dung heap by seeking special treatment or adopting a sanctimonious stance.

Why dont the police for example, sit on motorway bridges with a speedcam any more? The Mways have become a lawless racetrack where the few doing 70 or less have the inside lane to themselves whilst the rest of the morons either hog the centre lane doing 50/60 or drive nose to tail at high speed in lane 3.

Softkitty2 · 19/09/2017 07:51

You said you 2 are not friends. She is in the wrong so tell her.

There is nothing important enough to warrant phone use whilst behind heavy machinery. It's absolutely shocking the amount of drivers on their phones--they should be called out/prosecuted and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Karen85 · 19/09/2017 07:57

I saw a woman using hair straighteners in a traffic jam once

PurplePillowCase · 19/09/2017 08:01

film her.
make sure she's clearly visible and also the car registration.
most police have a section where you can upload this with a short description.
if you have a neighbourhood association, contact them as well so it can be put in the newsletter.

PotteringAlong · 19/09/2017 08:11

They do. I got zapped on Saturday Blush

TDHManchester · 19/09/2017 08:11

The complete joke about mobile phone use is that it is perfectly legal to drive and chat on something like this.
