Shocking ageism with Vince cable

Why so much ageism with VC. He may have been born during WWII but he seems as sharp as a button and very clued up. He'd be much better than TM, BJ, DC, TB or GB!

Much better at selling off Royal Mail at a greatly reduced price. Even Thatcher didn't dare do that.

Cameblackbenzleftwhite1 · 18/09/2017 07:56

Well that was small change compared to GB and the selling off of the gold.

I don't think it's his age that's the problem

AccrualIntentions · 18/09/2017 08:00

Agreed, I'm no particular fan of Vince but the ageism flying his way is astounding. He's only 6 years older than Jeremy Corbyn, who people seem to have no qualms about in age terms. 3 years older than Donald Trump. 5 years older than Hillary Clinton. It's really not that out of step with other leadership contenders round the world.

Vince Cable is 74. By the time the next election comes round he could be 79. If he's then elected PM he could still be PM age 84.

If you don't think that's relevant I won't be able to persuade you otherwise. The same applies to Corbyn, of course.

Having said that, I'd vote for him if we had an election today. He's the only one not willing to drive the bus over the edge of the cliff.

SilverySurfer · 18/09/2017 09:15

If he is elected PM?? He has about as much chance of becoming PM as the Pope renouncing catholicism. He and his one policy party are an irrelevance.

I do have a problem with the fact that so may politicians are in their 70s. I would prefer a greater mix of ages and therefore perspectives. We worry that there aren't a respresentatove number of women in parliament, and we worry that there aren't a representative number of BEM MPs, but nobody mentions the fact that we don't have a representative number of people in their 20s, 30s, 40s or even 50s. If anything I would say politics is ageist in favour of the old.
