Nhs receptionists!

So I went to the walk-in centre and experienced a very terse woman manning the desk reeling me I shouldn't be there, but she would let me see someone. She was right, the nurse told me to go to the proper hospital!

Why can't they stop thinking they can diagnose with no medical training.

I have a big furuncle on my neck which has been getting bigger. Last time I had one the GP sent me straight to hospital to have it drained, so I know it needs dealing with!

Big queue here at the hospital though 😞

So the receptionist said you shuldnt be there
And the nurse told you to go to hospital
And you think the receptionist knows nothing ?
But you went despite knowing last time you went to a hospital?

Well, that wasted everyones time didn't it?

Flatpeaches · 17/09/2017 19:00

I can understand the want to avoid hospital but clearly a walk in centre is not the right place for you and she was trying to save you time waiting for the nurse.

To be fair though... you knew you should be at the hospital not the walk in centre and wasted everyones time by hanging around only to have to go there anyway. I find 111 helpful if I am not sure where I should go for something. It does irritate me though, I tried to get a doctor appointment and the gp receptionist would only give me an appointment with the nurse because it was an ear infection, only to have the nurse go and get the doctor anyway. A waste of everyone time....

No comment on the woman. But Sporner Corner will love pictures.

This. They may not have medical training but will have enough knowledge of their system to know that some things probably aren't walk in clinic issues.

You said yourself that it was hospital last time, so why go to a walk in centre that's clearly not the right place for you?

PinkDaffodil2 · 17/09/2017 19:06

You knew you should be at hospital, she said you should be at hospital, but you still wasted time (and a precious appointment) for the nurse to tell you to go to hospital?

trinity0097 · 17/09/2017 19:06

I honestly thought a centre like that would be able to deal with it. Otherwise I would have come to the hospital straight away.

The receptionist was saying I shouldn't have come to any sort of medical person.

There is such a need for some kind of inbetween where you can get non life threatening things dealt with that your GP can't deal with but aren't really A&E material. So am sat here in minor injuries with my neck throbbing!

Erm. She didn't diagnose you. She told you that you should be elsewhere - which she was right about.

You pretty much just wasted everyone's time (and the money it would have cost). Plus, you would have been in the queue sooner

purplecorkheart · 17/09/2017 19:12

I assume that she is trained that of people present with certain symptoms or complaints that they are referred to A&E
