I'm usually pretty stoic. If I can walk I go to work but I'm not sure. I had to get so to rescue me shopping today as I felt awful and couldn't get round the shop for the last bits so woolly was my head.

My job can be full on and physical. We are now corporate with all the bullshit that goes with. Return to work interviews where one of the q's raised with line manager is has employee taken more than 3 incidents in past 6 months. Having worked there just over 18m I had my first absence when I got a vommiting bug a few weeks ago. So if I dont tomorrow I can't get sick again in next six months. To be fair I don't usually get sick or I battle through but I feel terrible. Didn't go out with dd today. Stayed home but feel shit. Total snot fest. Can't take Lemsip etc so it's lemon and honey all the way.

We are fully staffed tomorrow and not busy but I do work as part of a team and have a role within it. I caught this from a fecking temp Angry now me and dd both ill.

Feel weak and developing a cough as did temp who now on antibiotics.

It's not very fair to your colleagues to go in.

Capricorn76 · 17/09/2017 21:33

Could you go in for a few hours then go home after lunch or something? Would that go on your absence record?

I'm also ill but I have a couple of big meetings which means I have to haul ass in to work but I'm planning on leaving early e.g 2pm so I can try and look after myself. However, I work for a human friendly organisation that doesn't penalise you for being off sick partly because they know it's counterproductive to force sick people to come to work and spread infections.

Stay at home - you're ill. You need to rest. Don't be a martyr
Feel better soon Flowers

GrandDesespoir · 18/09/2017 12:07

I appreciate you will have already made your decision as to whether or not to go in today, but if you've had one illness since you started, plus the current one, that does not make "more than three" incidents of sickness in six months. In fact it doesn't make more than two incidents in 18 months.

Personally I hate it when people come into work spreading germs. Unless you're the Prime Minister or something, you're not indispensable, so stay at home!

bluetongue · 18/09/2017 12:46

There are colds where you just have the sniffles and colds where you feel like death warmed up and just need to stay in bed. This sounds like the latter. Give yourself a day to rest up and hopefully you'll feel much better tomorrow.

And I've woken with the worst sore throat. Jinxed myself. Aside from the odd lovely colleague feeding me oranges it's business as usual though I was counting the minutes until home time. Hope you're ok OP

DontTouchTheMoustache · 18/09/2017 21:57

There are plenty of vulnerable people who could be exposed to your germs unfortunately (people with ypung kids or elderly relatives or poeple with underlying health conditions) so please stay at home.until you are unlikely to be infectious. I nearly died a few years ago because someone came to work with the flu Sad

Workplaces with bs sickness policies piss me off like nothing else. I work somewhere stupidly corporate and the policy is that they can investigate after 2 instances in a year. In reality they don't do this and team members are encouraged to take time off sick if they are ill (with a short term thing like a cold), team leaders less so and long term illness is frowned upon.

BarbarianMum · 18/09/2017 22:21

My boss came in with a streaming cold a couple of months ago. Proper sneezing everywhere. Gave it to 3 of us. We all took time off.

LEMtheoriginal · 19/09/2017 07:02

So I went into work - felt better but not a productive day for many reasons. I joked ah well at least it's better than me being home sick.

My line manager said "surely you werent going to be sick you were only off last month Hmm THAT is the reason i dragged myself into work. I wouldn't mind if I were always pulling a sickie. But that was the first time I'd been sick in 18 months.

Fucking hate working for a corporate
