How much to spend?

I've found a mattress I bloody love! It's £1499 a sealy Singapore mattress exclusive to Bendons for Beds. We can easily afford it.

DH says I'm being ridiculous to even consider spending that much. Do Sealy have something similar at a lower price? Our current bed is awful, we're both in pain every morning.

Am I being unreasonable to want a mattress worth that much?

We spent £1500 ( in the sale too!!!!!) on a Tempur mattress 12 years ago. After five yrs it developed a fault. We were given a brand new replacement within 10 days, with a brand new 15 yr g'tee. It's been worth every penny and when this starts to wear out I will be buying another.
You get one back and one pair of feet. Buy the best bed and the best shoes you can afford because if you're not in one, you are in the other. - probably the best piece of advice I have been given and one I stick to religiously.
If we get 15 yrs out of this mattress it's cost us £2 per week. If you can afford a good mattress then buy it, you certainly won't be wasting your money.

Ours was around that price, totally worth it imo. A good night sleep is easily worth that, especially over years.

Years ago I was in conversation with some work colleagues about this very thing, and I always remember one of the guys saying exactly what yorkshireyummymummy says - it's worth spending on good quality mattress and shoes, because if you're not in one you're in the other.

Of course, that was before I encountered MN and found out how many people don't wear shoes in their or other peoples houses!

Anyone bought a bed from 'John Ryan Designs' they seem to know so much about beds and their mattresses are very reasonable

Vi spring are the best hands down, or Hastens (but they really are spendy), but I stand by my love of ikea mattresses, so long as you go for the pocket sprung ones they are great.

I'm going against the grain here. When we moved in 2013 our staples so can and mattress bought in 1986 was at the end of its life. Wasn't sale time so I went to John Lewis and bought a divan and mattress for £700 because they could deliver to new home within five days. Thought we would buy something much better quality in January sale and bump it into guest room. But the £700 bed has been bloody marvellous and I have degenerated disks and have broken my back (fully recovered).

Glad you can afford an expensive mattress, we have a discontinued £600 one which we got for £150. I think it's a miracoil one but it suits us, unless DH tosses and turns as it bounces on my side

Kikibanana86 · 17/09/2017 23:37

I don't think that's too much for a mattress I have a tempur one that was 3k but before this I had a sealy forest dreams which was 700 for the king size mattress and divan and it was so comfy but got ruined with 2 home births lol!

Kikibanana86 · 17/09/2017 23:39

Simba mattresses are suppose to be good

I've just forked out on a Mumsnet Spirit made by Dreams, tried loads over the last few weeks and decided this is gonna be the one. Will let you know how it is in few weeks. FYI, I'm not affiliated with mumsnet in anyway
