Accidentally cooked wooden spoon in sauce

Softkittysillykitty · 16/09/2017 18:49

Was cooking a batch of bolognaise when the phone rang. Turned sauce down and chatted for half an hour. Came back to sauce and found I'd left a wooden spoon simmering in it.

AIBU to keep on cooking? My DM told me to throw it away and start again. I think she's mad! What a waste! I mean what's the worst that could happen? It tastes a little wooden?

Who is right?

it's fine.
done that loads of times

If you imagine a tree as a very big vegetable then I can't see that it could do too much harm.

caroline161 · 16/09/2017 18:52

It will be fine

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 16/09/2017 18:53

It's organic - it be fine!!

BusterGonad · 16/09/2017 18:54

I'm not sure why you wouldn't think that it would be fine?!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 16/09/2017 18:54

I'm not dead yet, so you should be OK Grin.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 16/09/2017 18:54

It will be fine.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 16/09/2017 18:55

It's one of your five a day, surely?

Channel your inner beaver. Eat your dinner.

GabsAlot · 16/09/2017 18:56

what its a spoon not poison

ZippyCameBack · 16/09/2017 18:56

If you had been standing in front of the cooker for all that time and stirring the sauce, would that have been a problem? There's no difference, because the wooden spoon would still have been in the sauce. If the sauce isn't burnt, it's fine.

Softkittysillykitty · 16/09/2017 18:56

Thank you 😊

I am going to show my DM this thread!

I always leave the spoon in. They arent made of poisonous wood (unless you whittled it yourself from hemlock?)

kaytee87 · 16/09/2017 18:58

I've done it loads of times. No idea why anyone would think you had to throw it out.

It'll be absolutely fine.

diddl · 16/09/2017 19:09

What does your mum would have happened in that time that is different to stirring something until it comes to the boil or stirring/take spoon out/repeat!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/09/2017 19:09

I leave it in all the time, i'm in my 50s, i'm not dead yet.

honeyroar · 16/09/2017 19:12

As long as it's not burnt onto the bottom of the pan it's not a problem. It's designed to be in a pan at hot temperatures..

Oysterbabe · 16/09/2017 19:14

It wouldn't even occur to me to worry about this Smile

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 16/09/2017 19:14

Is this why spoon rests were invented?

Or are they just so the teabag holder can have a friend?

BigDamnHero · 16/09/2017 19:18

I don't think I ever take the wooden spoon out of the pan when I'm cooking a sauce...

MiddlingMum · 16/09/2017 19:19

Surely it's easier to leave the wooden spoon in the saucepan than to take it out and mess up the worktop or a saucer with it.

Oysterbabe · 16/09/2017 19:22

I've never seen or owned a spoon rest.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 16/09/2017 19:22

I once found a spoon at the bottom of casserole, it slipped under when I wasn't looking and I found it when dishing up!
Poor little fella must been in there for at least 2 hours.Sad

Softkittysillykitty · 16/09/2017 19:24

What is this spoonrest you speak of?! Mother?!
