WIBinsane to consider a new job when 12.5 weeks pregnant?

I wouldn't get SMP but presumably maternity allowance? Also would want to tell "new" job so would imagine it be to be a stopgap before embarking in new role after Mat leave

I'm guessing it would be a disaster on my Cv to leave a relatively well paid/high responsibility job to do "something else" for a short period

I'd be much more sensible to stick it out for a few months I guess and maybe take Mat leave early? Please tell me Iabu!

So you wouldnt return after MAT leave?

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/09/2017 18:01

I suppose it depends on your reasons for moving role. Is it to get out of your current work place or is it backside you actively want the new role? The suggestion that it's a stop gap makes me think the former?

Papafran · 16/09/2017 18:02

Why would you do that? Would you have no intention of going back to the new job after mat leave? Presumably you are entitled to SMP and maybe even enhanced mat pay with your current job. Is it not easier to stick with that, then not go back after mat leave and start something new?

greendale17 · 16/09/2017 18:05

Don't do it

LoveNunxxx · 16/09/2017 18:13

I got preggers between job offer and actually starting, obviously unplanned! Once my company realised that i'd be off after 6 months they basically treated me like shit and I struggled to hang onto my job until the mat leave date. I was mid senior level in an investment bank, so basically well paid and had a good package but not really very well protected because I was still on probation. . I woudnt bother. its unfair to the employer, will start you off on a bad footing, and it things go wrong will cause you a very stressful pregnancy.

You are all right - I am being silly!

Have managed for five years so I'm sure I can do a few more months!

You might as well get the max you're entitled to! By the time you've worked your notice period you'll be in touching distance of mat leave anyway.

Catinthecorner · 16/09/2017 23:45

If it's a good move for you career wise and you'd stay on after maternity leave I'd still apply, assuming you could manage without the financial benefits.

Allthewaves · 16/09/2017 23:47

I'd stay put unless your moving to your dream job and going back after maternity leave.

Allthewaves · 16/09/2017 23:50

You usually can take maternity leave 11 wks before due date and you could use all annual leave too giving u another month so go off 15 weeks ish before due date?
