Found syringes

More of a what the fuck do I do?

I live in a rented flat, 6month lease currently in month 4.

No problems with the flat until today.
I noticed that the dirty water from the kitchen sink is back flowing into the washing machine so I unscrewed the drainpipe that collects large bits of debris.
When I did this a bunch (4 or 5) of needles/ syringes fall out.

What the hell do I do now?
The toilet seems to be struggling to flush as well, I don't know if it's linked or not. I'm worried there are more in other drains.
I've tried ringing the EA but they're closed and I have no emergency number.
Is it something I even need to discuss with them or the landlord?

You poor thing, what a nightmare! Is there any chance you ciuld get a sharps bin from pharmacist/local hospital in the meantime? Just to get them out of the way safely?

Did the previous tenants have animals that might have needed injections? (Clutching at straws)

My DC found an insulin syringe on a bus once, the driver couldn't have given less shits if he tried, I took it to a local Pharmacy and they were even stroppier about letting me dispose of it .
Hmm

We have those in the house, great for measuring tiny amounts of liquids!

I'd hazard a guess that they were washed and left to dry at the side of the sink then knocked in by accident. In our old house a plumber found 4 full size chop sticks in the u bend of our kitchen sink!

I agree that they look like drawing up needles. For reconstituting antibiotics, that sort of thing. Not usually suitable for intravenous injection.

PigletJohn · 16/09/2017 19:01

could they have been flushed down a WC?

some people think that drains cause rubbish to cease to exist. It doesn't, it gets lodged and causes blockages.

If rented you may need to alert the agent and get a plumber.

Anything sharp in a drain is a danger to workers.

p.s.

the picture is like things I use for injecting glue into fine wood joints, or under veneer. They may be used for oiling and other non-medical jobs. Mine are labelled "blunt" or "not sharp needles" or something similar and do not have hypodermic points.

Hugs4Everyone · 16/09/2017 19:06

Jewellery makers and other crafters also use needles that look like that.

Ilovecoleslaw · 16/09/2017 19:06

They're blunt filter needles used for drawing up out of glass normally! Definitely not used for injecting

GerdaLovesLili · 16/09/2017 19:10

Yes, also used for refilling printer ink cartridges.

rogl · 16/09/2017 19:12

Thank you everyone for your kind replies.
I'm confident we're not living in an ex meth lab or anything now. I will still be contacting the estate agent so they're aware and disposing correctly of the needles.

If nothing else it's highlighted that we need an emergency number in case something happens to the property out of hours.

Again thank you everyone for taking the time to reply

Water comes from the PIPES and once used it flows away down the the drains.

Therefore unless you have found syringes in your water pipes there is no reason to fear using the washing machine or any other source of water.

rogl · 16/09/2017 19:33

Brit I was concerned because the needles were blocking the pipes and causing water from the kitchen sink to flow backwards into the washing machine. All sorted now though, the water is flowing properly again

They look like drawing up needles. They are blunt ended - not sharp.
