to think Theresa May is being incredibly disingenus to suggest the police have had a 32% pay rise since 2010?

Asked about this at PMQs.

She goes on about a specific group of police who started in 2010 and were able to take advantage of the automatic increments etc that happened in that time plus the increase in the personal allowance.

Clearly explained in More or Less - 8 minutes in

The figure she quoted applied to 4% of police officers. It's the same thing she says about nurses, teachers etc.

Technically, she is correct to say that new starters in 2010 have seen their take home pay increase by 32%.

But the overwhelming majority haven't.

Sir Humphrey would be proud. I hope all those Tory MPs agreeing with her understand that she is being disingenus.

Yanbu

An mp lying is nothing new sadly.

A bit like when Jeremy Hunt promises new nurses and doctors when those taking up training are at a record low, and those who are qualified and leaving the country.

Most officers I know had a two year pay freeze then consistent 1% rises while their pension increases meant there was no raise. As for the cap being removed this year, the second 1% is being paid as a 'bonus' each month with no contribution going into the pension scheme and is having to come out of each forces budgets. The recommendation that officers in southern forces should get an extra £1000 a year south east weighting allowance never happened as it was also to come out of individual forces budgets. Needless to say the chief constables did not have the money so it wasn't paid. Morale is at an all time low, there has been a 25% increase in referrals to welfare in the police yet still Teresa May continues spouting this nonsense

I can see her now. Asking her advisers to find a figure that makes the pay rises look good.

And all the jeering supporters behind her. I wish Corbyn would call her out on this to her face.

They've done the same with educational funding. On paper there is more money going into schools.. but the school population is also increasing so in reality every school is facing cuts of around £500 per pupil. It's an eye watering amount really.

You would expect the papers to tackle it, but as they're all tory mouthpieces, they won't say a word.

it's scary how many people don't see what is happening

orlantina · 16/09/2017 14:28

She always does this. Deliberately spins the figures. But clearly doesn't care.

I know 3 and they have all lost at least 2 to 3K a year due to the loss of former perks such as overtime and Xmas pay. None have had an increase.

Maelstrop · 16/09/2017 15:00

Lies, frankly. Same as other public sector workers, they've been on a pay freeze for years.
