Night out and weight gain

Sandsunsea · 15/09/2017 21:50

I have a night out with old friends coming up. I am huge and have no clothes. I have gained so much weight, especially around my middle. I need advice on what clothes to wear to stop me feeling disgusting so I actually go and don't make excuses so I can hide at home. Please help!

Try Mint velvet- i just got their Atllanta dark jean jeggings and they're super tight and stretchy and then if you get a slightly floaty top for your top half then you're doing a more modern version of the tunic and leggings look.
Also I've started getting some nice basics from John Lewis weekend - they tend to use natural fabrics and arre more generously proportioned.

Jewellery is important too. If you get a longer , bigger necklace then that helps to tie the look together.

Oh and I agree with you regarding the lindy bop dresses - not my thing at all.

I have this one

It is SO flattering

I am a size 18 and apple shaped. I would normally wear black jeans from Next and a top. I like Wallis for tops as they normally have some that are a bit floaty.

kateandme · 16/09/2017 08:39

I don't have much advice, but I saw a friend who I hadn't seen for years recently and she had gained a few stone, ok a lot of stones. And she looks bloody gorgeous. It was like this was the weight she always should have been. Sorry, I know it's not particularly helpful, but I just wanted to say that you'll be aware of your body in a way that others aren't. You'll be surprised when you dress for your size and confidently how you will look. My friend is like a whole new woman and she's got va va room coming out the wazooo now!

ItsAllAboutThePace · 16/09/2017 08:45

kalli cos it looks hideous!! What I saw on google did anyway.

ponderingprobably · 16/09/2017 08:51

I like Debenhams jeggings. They have the look of jeans but are pretty stretch. The waist sits on my waist. They come in different colours. Here:

ItsAllAboutThePace · 16/09/2017 08:53

I've heard good things about those leggings too pondering

50ShadesOfEarlGrey · 16/09/2017 08:54

OP I know you feel big for you, but 16/18 sizes are available everywhere. Also, have you seen the others recently, it's likely that they have all put on a bit of weight, lots of people do as we get older!
I would second Mintvelvet. Materials are fab, not too much in the way of vivid pattern. Lovely drapery tops, with shape and movement in them. Their jeans have lots of stretch. They also do wonderful proper trouser type leggings.
If you do go for leggings, go expensive, they need to hold you in.

Do you do heels? Not high stiletto type, but a chunky block heel in a boot, or court? Keep the clothing refined and then go for a real statement necklace, pull the attention upwards, above the waist.
Can be worn with tailored coat/jacket/soft blazer over the top and take a pretty patterned scarf to add extra Wow factor for arrival. Can also be used to artfully drape across lap to disguise tummy bulge when sitting down.
Make sure hair, nails, make up all on top of their game and enjoy!

ThymeLordIsSpartacus · 16/09/2017 08:54

Thosecows I usually wore jeggings as they are thicker and tend to fit better (not go baggy).

amusedbush · 16/09/2017 08:57

Lindybop is the nastiest, worst quality clothing retailer out there! Their sizing is terrible and I have no idea who they cut their clothes for because it's either tight on the waist and massive on the bust, or huge all over with painfully tight sleeves, or the arm holes are so big you can see several inches of bra cup Confused

NapQueen · 16/09/2017 08:57

OP im buggest round my middle and Sainsburys jeans are the best fit on me. They do a range of styles plus jeggings. Sec9nd the cami and blazer with them.

ponderingprobably · 16/09/2017 08:57

Yes, I've several, in different colours. They are my 'go to' when I want jeans type things now. TBH they look like jeans but the stretch makes them much comfier & less restrictive.

MiddleClassProblem · 16/09/2017 08:59

House of Fraser online have a surprisingly good choice of plus size clothes.

I would also recommend getting some Primark vest tops as they are long and when you put your arms up they don't ride up so you can wear them under a nice top as a safety net for exposing your tummy or as a top in their own.

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/09/2017 09:41

I'd also suggest the Lyra dress on ladyvlondon; you can get it short or long sleeved, plain or patterned - it's a crossover bust, flowy knee length skirt and very flattering and comfortable.

Mooey89 · 16/09/2017 10:21

YY to the Lyra dress, I found it came up big though so get a size smaller!

haveacupoftea · 16/09/2017 10:25

Also recommend Scarlett and Jo. The clothes are expensive so if you have a Simply Be near you it's worth popping in to try them on before buying but I don't think you would be disappointed. They're basically designed to flatter the waist.

haveacupoftea · 16/09/2017 10:27

Also try Asda wonderfit jeans. They stretch out in the places you need a bit of extra stretch but stay tight everywhere else. They look like any other jeans but are soft and comfortable. I've a big tummy post section and they're the only jeans I can bear to wear.

ponderingprobably · 16/09/2017 10:30

Sorry seemed to have posted in wrong thread. How did that happen?

ponderingprobably · 16/09/2017 10:31

Time wrong too. Just posted. Strange.

As you were.

ShoesHaveSouls · 16/09/2017 12:47

Those wanting to wear dresses but don't like their legs - try high heeled, knee high boots with them. I know knee-highs aren't considered that fashionable at the mo, but they are so flattering.

OP, I also think jeans, cami & blazer is a very good look.
