Hi I've just checked my phone and have had a call and text message from the council saying I need to contact them what could this be about? I don't owe any council tax or anything -but suffer with anxiety and I'm panicking TIA

If it is that important they will contact you again next week.

Sorry but I have never known a public sector entity to contact anyone after 5.30pm on a Friday.

Relax and let them do the work next week.

Are you awaiting a decision, or backdating?

They tend to only call if they need more information or if you're waiting and they know you need dates to give to a LL. It won't be to stop your benefit.

That's so annoying when someone calls (especially 'officialdom,') and they don't say what they want. So you worry. Sad

When we rented privately a number of years ago, the property agent left an answerphone message saying 'please can you call with regard to your rent we have not received.' We started to panic and wondered why, as it HAD gone out of our account the previous day. It pissed me off though, because it was 4.50pm on a Friday and I missed the call as I was in the garden. I rang back (within 10 minutes of them calling,) and the answerphone was on and they were shut down til Monday.

So we worried all night, and all weekend, and then when we finally got through on the Monday, the manager said that 5 minutes after leaving the message, he discovered he had made a mistake, and it HAD come through!

Why the fuck he could not have rang back 5 minutes later and left me a message saying all was OK is beyond me. Really pissed me off. Especially as he had rang a couple of times before (several months back,) and said 'can you ring back please?' with NO clue as to what it was about. (Also on late afternoon on a Friday!) I was so pissed off after the last occurrence, that I deactivated the answerphone, so he could leave no more messages and would have to keep ringing til I answered.

I am sure it is nothing serious OP, as if it were, you would probably have had a visit. Can't advise you fully, as I don't know enough about you sorry, (like if you're on benefits etc...)

Don't worry (easy to say I know!) and try and put it out of your head til Monday. (Some council offices are open Saturday morning BTW, so you could try and get through tomorrow...)

I had a call left from HMRC today re: being taken to court. Utter tosh. Just be careful not to panic and ring any old number. X

OrigamiParrot · 15/09/2017 23:06

If it was anything serious I very much doubt they'd send a text - too informal, as a pp said, they'd send a letter.

Please try not to worry all weekend. Do you use any other council services, anything related to your children maybe (children's centre?) - could be that.

Anxiety is horrid, I know. Try to remember that it's unlikely to be anything bad, and even if it was, it can all be dealt with.

shopbopdrop · 15/09/2017 23:49

Origami no nothing I was thinking maybe just maybe it could be from the electoral department with that letter asking whom lives at the address but I've checked my letter and it's not due back till the 25 of Sept . I literally cannot think of any reason they would need to contact all council tax up to date I always pay early because I'm so anxious about life I ring first thing and pay. wouldn't set a foot wrong even if I wanted to which I don't I'm to anxious so I can't think why they would have a need to contact me not even in a council house it's housing association :(

It could be 101 things- school admissions, noisy neighbours, council tax, planning survey, social services, overdue library book! etc etc. Crap of them not to say which department they were calling from,

bigbluedustbin · 16/09/2017 00:10

Can you ask a neighbour if they've also received a call? It might not be about you but something to do with the area that they need to notify people about.
