Hit in chest by unknown child

This has been on my mind for a while now as I'm shocked it even happened in the first place..but sitting minding my own business in a well known coffee store, enjoying my drink and reading a book.
Sat up to get ready to leave and a young girl aged about 4 ran up from across the cafe, and hit me hard on the chest (i.e. breasts), then ran off to her family who were just sat there laughing at her and at me :(
I was alone and was too shocked to say anything to the girl or her family, and hastily left. Other people nearby saw what happened and were looking at me.
Not sure why a child would do this to a complete stranger. It actually really fucking hurt for a good while after.
Fully expecting to get flamed for this post but just needed to rant is all. I'm pretty sure I would never have done the same as a child or adult.

I'm very surprised you didn't speak to her parents and basically ask wtf?!

YANBU. Her behaviour was very wrong and potentially dangerous! Imagine if you had of spilled a hot coffee over her?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 15/09/2017 21:42

I would think a child like that had problems, tbh. Either some sort of problem themselves, or having parents who can't do anything with them. It's horrible when it happens; I'm sorry you were upset.

Summerof85 · 15/09/2017 21:49

No wonder you were shocked. Bad enough that you were thumped by a child but the family sat and laughed?? Do you think they told her to do it? I don't know what I would have done in your situation either. I might have been too shocked to say anything either or have shouted at the child or the family. Would have telling the staff what happened have helped? Hope you are okay Flowers

That's appalling.

Ykn · 07/08/2023 15:56

I have just come across this thread suggested by another one.

Appalling that the child did this and that the parents didn't care, even appeared to encourage it!

Wow.

Coffeelotsofcoffee · 07/08/2023 20:06

Look my son has addional needs and has done this.

BUT I apologised profusely , ear blasted my kid and took him the F**k home

It is sadly not surprising that there are parents like this. I often see parents who do not take responsibility for their kids at all.

Longdarkcloud · 07/08/2023 20:15

With parents like that there is no point in saying anything as the most you’ll get is abuse or “she’s just a little kid “
On the street one day a boy of about 6 or 7 ran straight at me and hit me in the crotch. It was deliberate and not an accident and the street was empty except for me and his family. I remonstrated with his parents who told me he was just a kid and refused to apologise or tell the child to. I was shocked both by the incident and how aggressive it was and by the realisation that in these circumstances there is nothing one can do..

JMSA · 07/08/2023 20:16

That is so weird. I've worked with an autistic boy who could have lashed out physically at a stranger. But his wonderful family would have been mortified (boy is amazing too)! Shock
Their reaction simply wasn't normal and actually fucking outrageous.

FloweryName · 07/08/2023 20:21

The child is either feral with terrible parents or has some type of special need. Most likely the latter mixed with rude parents as they were laughing and didn’t apologise. I wouldn’t overthink it.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 07/08/2023 23:55

And this is when swearing at or near children is acceptable.

I was once in the grocery store in front of the bakery case. This 7-9 yo kid stepped on my feet as they squeezed between me and the the case. I very sharply said “this is where excuse me is used” and her mother standing behind me said “owww yes precious you shouldn’t do that” to which I respond “and you should teach her some fucking manners. “

Yeah not proud but damn it pissed me off that mumsy was such a wet noodle about it.

The upside is mumsy very quickly shuffled precious off to another part of the store and I finished my shopping in peace.
