to like pulling my hair when I have a headache?

DP thinks it's weird, but I'm presuming this is fairly common.

When I have an annoying, rather than painful, headache, pulling at clumps of my hair helps alleviate it. At the moment, I'm going around the edge of my forehead pulling away because it seems to ease the tension.

This is normal, isn't it?

Yep, I do this too.

Most headaches are to do with muscles, it's just a kind of massage. Probably better for your hair health to give yourself a scalp massage but what works for you!

OrphanAccount · 15/09/2017 22:21

I've never done it but only because it hadn't occurred to me. I do like to wash my hair vigorously when I have a tension headache though so I guess that's the same sort of thing?

Nothing like pulling hair out Ojoj. It might not be what everyone does but I don't think there's anything worrying about it.

I do it too. Also helps when tired. An Indian head massage works better though! Book yourself in :)

GreatBigPolarBear · 15/09/2017 22:21

I do this! It helps relieve sinus pressure too I think.
it's not pulling hair Out, just tugging on a clump

Ilovehamabeads · 15/09/2017 22:22

Yes! I do this for headaches, my DH thinks it's strange but then he doesn't get many headaches. To me it feels like I'm lifting the skin away from my skull and easing the pressure in my head Smile I don't know why it works but it does. I have to get a good handful of hair and lift it straight up in the air. If I pull it down, it doesn't work.

AmpleRaspberries · 15/09/2017 22:29

Yep I do this. I tend to do it if I'm in work when I get a migraine and can't just go and lie down. It helps reduce the pain a bit

user1499786242 · 15/09/2017 22:33

Yep! Me and my partner both do this when we have headaches!
I also tap my forehead and eye area!!!
Whatever helps!

IWantACheeseburger · 15/09/2017 22:38

Yes I do this. I also put deep heat on my forehead/temples when I have a headache. DH takes the piss out of me but has admitted it does actually help when I have persuaded him to do it.

1wokeuplikethis · 15/09/2017 22:38

I agree it helps. Don't know why.

Wonder if it's a bit like how a TENS machine works: a pain being caused elsewhere distracts your mind from the pain you'd been noticing previously. I dunno.

VeraVinegarTits · 15/09/2017 22:42

I do this too, seems to alleviate the excruciating pain when I get a migraine.
