Literally- how many times a day do normal, healthy people shit? Blush

I've started going 4/5 times a day. Sometimes more. Not very solid either. Sorry TMI I know. But I'm now wondering why. Is this even an issue?

I think I have a good diet-

Breakfast- porridge with banana
Lunch- hummus sandwich, two more portions of fruit or veg, sometimes a small chocolate bar, ie, kit Kat.

Snack- cereal bar/ slice of toast/ etc...

Dinner- burger and a few onion rings, corn on the cob, peas

Is my diet shit?

So AIBU to ask your opinion on whether this is normal AND if it's not, do I need to go to the doctors?

Thank you Grin

Are you anxious about anything?
Check the colour of your poop as if it's a bit yellow it can mean food is passing through your system too quickly and you're not absorbing important nutrients. Ask for stool samples of bacteria, parasites, fat in your stools, candida and fungus. Also get some general blood tests done to check for inflammation and your liver function.
It could just be something you've eaten that's disagreed with you a bit, or something that's causing you stress in your personal life. If it lasts more than a few weeks then it definitely needs proper investigation though and referral to a gastro to check for things like IBS and chrons

fancysquillium · 15/09/2017 08:19

I 💩 multiple times a day, persistently overactive thyroid, maybe get that checked?

kateandme · 15/09/2017 08:33

if its not worrying you mi might leave it for a few days.we can pick up infection or tummy bugs that last a few days.but if you in pain and things have deff taken a sudden change then id just get it checked.cant harm.
I no it sounds horrid too but do have a look.sorry to say this but for worms.does happen.
changes in colour.smell.
feeling poorly.
has your diet changed.
just have a general gloss over as you sit here on anything that could have caused this and pain?
then go from there.
it could be a bug.

kateandme · 15/09/2017 08:33

oh also stress can do it.

MuddlingThroughLife · 15/09/2017 08:36

I used to be a gastro Secretary. "Normal" is anywhere between three times a day and three times a week. Any recent persist change in bowel habit should be checked out. 🎗

PoshPenny · 15/09/2017 08:38

That sounds like a lot of bread you're eating every day, I would ease back on that, but it certainly sounds like something's gone a bit off track with your digestive system, the hard bit will be finding out why it's happening.

supersop60 · 15/09/2017 08:41

Go to the doc. Any changes from what's normal for you, need to be checked out.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 15/09/2017 08:43

Onion rings do it for me!

C8H10N4O2 · 15/09/2017 08:50

That sounds like a lot of bread you're eating every day

Two slices and the occasional bit of toast? On that basis the nations sandwich lunch eaters should be spending more time on the loo than at work.

C8H10N4O2 · 15/09/2017 08:54

OP: If something like this has changed but your diet, other factors have not and it continues beyond a week then get it checked.

On the internet people will tell you its everything from vitamin pills to purple cabbage but we vary in our response to food and drink.

It could be a one off - a mild upset or possibly early warning of something like IBS. Either way the only people who can give you more than guesswork are your doctors with a full medical history.
(unless you can see blood in the stools in which case don't bother waiting a week).

ptumbi · 15/09/2017 08:56

I think it's a lot of carbs - porridge, fruit, choc, bread, burgerbun, carby veg,; in fact it's little else. If I ate that, I dunno about BMs, I'd be bloated like a balloon.

I shit about once, normally about the same time of day. Any change, in consistency or frequency, I'd get checked.

Iris65 · 15/09/2017 08:56

I have IBS - C and when I saw my GP because I had a week of going 5 - 10 times a day she told me that I had probably had a tummy bug. Unfortunately that triggered a really bad bout of IBS that I am still treating a month later.

Shockers · 15/09/2017 08:59

4-6 times daily. The thing is, it's always been the same. If I suddenly began to only go once, I'd be concerned. Get checked out, just to be on the safe side.

nannybeach · 15/09/2017 09:06

Depends if this is not normal for you, any oher symtoms, you didnt mention any. If you have bleeding from your bum, or mixed in with the poo, pain, or poo is black or very light coloured you need to see your GP asap. Everyone is different, being veggi, I go 3 times a day, DD that in a week. I do get IBS and diveritulitus, but that is completely different, and I know when I have these things. But, yes, your diet IS shit, too much bread not enough fruit and veg. I would think a stomach bug is unlikely, because you get severe pain and usually chucking up as well.

heron98 · 15/09/2017 09:08

I always wake up early neeeding a big poo. I would say every morning without fail. Then sometimes I have a surprise one in the afternoon. So I would say 1-2 times.

QuimReaper · 15/09/2017 09:15

Definitely go to see your GP.

Has your weight changed? Thyroid changes can cause bowel changes.

Don't listen to our random speculations though!

QuimReaper · 15/09/2017 09:16

Also OP how long's it been going on?

WankStainWasher · 15/09/2017 09:22

I'd start by cutting down on all that bread. You may be sensitive to gluten. But even if not, that's too many carbs.

We did gluten free for a month as a trial and it really helped with the digestive issues. Now we just watch the intake of gluten - so a wrap instead of a sandwich for instance.

Penfold007 · 15/09/2017 09:30

It's not normal for you so please see your doctor and get it checked.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/09/2017 09:32

I go a lot more than that, but always have done (or at least, for the past 30 years). I agree with everyone else - see the doctor, because the important factor is that your toilet activities have changed.

BillBrysonsBeard · 15/09/2017 09:40

Once a day always. DP is always at the loo!

Bratsandtwats · 15/09/2017 09:41

4 or 5 times a day is 'normal' for me thank you IBS. However as this has not been normal for you so I would go and see your GP.

TheDizzyRascal · 15/09/2017 09:59

It could be the hummus! I was stuck to the loo for HOURS once after over-doing the hummus! x

user1494187262 · 15/09/2017 10:04

Corn on the cob
Just that

tehmina23 · 15/09/2017 10:14

If you have a change in your bowel habits you should see your gp
