to let the DC in a hot tub?

We're going away to somewhere with a hot tub and the DC want to use it. DC are 7, 5 and 2. I always 'knew' that hot tubs were a no go for under 5s but I have just done some checking and am confused.

Hot tub temperature is 37.5C and apparently has a risk of overheating and dehydration for under 5s. Over 5s should only use it for 5 mins at a time.

But recommended bath temperature for toddlers? between 37 and 38C!

So whats the difference? My kids play in their bath for up to half an hour and like it really warm and have never shown any signs of overheating and dehydration!

So can someone explain if I would BU to let all the DC use the hot tub? (obviously with adults present).

So long as they're supervised and you make sure they're drinking enough water you really don't need to worry, it's one of those silly CYA rules (like when children aren't allowed in saunas despite them going regularly from infancy in Finland)

We always took our bath thermometer along to double check but my kids bath in 37.5-38 so that's fine.

Some hot tubs are set to 39-40 so obviously that's a no.

Some hot tubs are adjustable some are fixed temps.

It'll be fine. Enjoy! 😊

i've checking where we are going and their tubs are fixed at 37.5.

So looks like i will have some very excited DC when i tell them its ok!

I think it's that the bath cools down whereas the hot tub stays at that temperature? Pretty sure I remember reading something like that when I was debating going in one when pregnant.

I've never worried about this - IME young kids treat it like a paddling pool, in and out, in and out, and the interest lasts about 15-20 minutes at most. It isn't like they sit there drinking. It is different from a bath obviously as a bath cools down, so I don't think it's just the starting temp that matters.

We had one on holiday, and at first I didn't let them in, but then I got over it and they were fine. They were supervised and in and out playing.
