DH noticed a bruise on my back about 2 weeks ago, I don't remember banging into anything or being knocked. He's just noticed it's not changed at all in 2 weeks and it's still blue/ purple.

I've also noticed tonight like a petechia rash on my left breast- 7 or 8 pinpricks. I recently had bloods done and nothing was found except a folate deficiency would it be worth going back? Or just leaving it a bit longer?
AIBU to potentially waste GP appointment tomorrow?

That's just an old bruise.

AfunaMbatata · 14/09/2017 06:17

Looks like an old bruise to me too.

AfunaMbatata · 14/09/2017 06:18

Perhaps go to a pharmacist instead?

Sallystyle · 14/09/2017 06:31

That bruise just isn't spectacular enough to warrant a GP appointment. It's low down enough that you could have easily knocked it without remembering. I have seen lots of bruises due to cancer and petechia and IME (although I'm no medic) they are much worse than the bruise you have shown.

That bruise would not be on my radar and I have health anxiety.

As with anything though, if you are unsure you should get it seen but my first point of contact for that would be a pharmacist. They would soon tell you if you needed a GP appointment. When my HA was at it's worst I would often see them if I was unsure and they always pointed me in the right direction. They are very unused.

Unexplained bruising should always be checked . OP ignore the other posts and get checked. x

Sallystyle · 14/09/2017 06:38

An unexplained one bruise should not always be checked.

A lot of unexplained bruising for sure. That is an every day bruise that everyone gets. If everyone went to their GP for that we would be in even more shit.

Common sense needs to be used and I say this as someone with health anxiety. I get bruises at times and I don't know how I got them. It's common and normal. If he OP is getting loads of unexplained bruises then she needs them checked, but not just for one.

Sallystyle · 14/09/2017 06:39

I am flabbergasted actually that one bruise can be classed as unexplained bruising that needs GP attention. Pharmacist at the most to check the rash as well. GP at this point? No.

Charolais · 14/09/2017 06:49

Do pharmacists check bruises and rashes on breasts in the U.K now? Here in the U.S they just fill prescriptions and advise on drug interactions etc. It’s the doctors job to examine patients.

CrochetBelle · 14/09/2017 06:56

Yes, they do Char Pharmacists are a great point of contact for things like that.

SuperBeagle · 14/09/2017 07:03

If I went to the doctor every time I got a bruise and couldn't pinpoint where it came from, I'd be there every week.

It's just a bruise. It'll go away in time.

NearlyEaster · 14/09/2017 07:06

My son has bruising due to low platelet counts. When he gets them they are everywhere at every pressure point. They're preceded by petichiae.

I check in his mouth - if that's full of petichiae it's time to see a GP.

I wouldn't be worried by one bruise.

Birdsgottafly · 14/09/2017 07:07

I've been given wrong advice, twice from a Pharmacist, so I now wouldn't bother.

I use Walk-ins, but I have a chronic health condition and luckily? I get seen at a hospital, monthly.

I've had different types of rashes, as a reaction to low immune system or lymph Nodes reacting to inflammation etc and they can take months to clear.

I had a rash for months one time, until I was on Vit B injections and Vitamin D. So I would give it a bit longer on whatever treatment you are on for low Folate. Which ties in with the bruising.

Sallystyle · 14/09/2017 07:08

Charolais As I said, when my health anxiety was at its worst I often went to see a pharmacist. I was also surprised by the amount of knowledge they have when it comes to things like that.

Obviously it is limited but they know enough to say that a bruise needs GP attention or if people can wait a bit and see if things change/get worse. There is a new sign up in my surgery advising people to use pharmacists more for minor issues. My pharmacist absolutely would check a bruise and rash out.

Schroedingerscatagain · 14/09/2017 08:06

As coeliacs I and both my dc are prone to folate deficiency

I can always tell if our levels have dropped because we bruise more.

With just one bruise I wouldn't worry unduly just make sure you're taking folate and vit c to aid its absorption

Charolais · 14/09/2017 17:09

That’s a very good thing to have a pharmacist who can check things out. I think here there would be legal reasons why they wouldn’t.

coronalover · 14/09/2017 17:13

If there are any changes to your breast then definitely get checked out at the GP, better safe than sorry Flowers
