DD6 had been a bit of a pain and also was keen to try out new water pistols. DP filled them up, took her outside and basically assassinated her with his. She couldn't work it (she hadn't been shown how to) she ran into a corner and effectively trapped, he blasted her repeatedly until she was soaking. I'm behind the glass shouting Stop, she can't move, show her how etc. She wasn't visible upset at the time but not laughing either. When she came in she sidled of to her room and got upset. She didn't want DP to help her so I changed her and she was quite upset. I raged at DP that evening and eventually he got it. He has apologised to her and to me. I'm still angry. Should I move on? I feel it has to be one of her defining moments and it was terrible to see. He's usually a lovely dad but I feel it's undermined my trust in him and worried it might have in hers too.

@Traalaa's idea is perfect. I was a sensitive wee soul and this would have left me quietly upset too, but being able to get "revenge" (providing DH takes it in good humour!) along with a sincere apology and cuddle afterwards from Daddy ("That was very funny DD but it wasn't very nice of me to do it to you when you hadn't said it was okay, I'm really sorry that I did and I promise I won't do again - please will you forgive me?" etc) would have made it a nice memory.

YANBU to be upset but I think it was just him being a bit boisterous and not reading the situation well (unless he has form for humiliating the DCs, obviously). My BIL can get a bit like this - his DS is pretty hardy and can take it but he has upset his DD in the past and been pretty gutted afterwards.

My DD had a similar situation - round at a friends family BBQ her two boys nabbed big fuck off waterpistols and left her with small one. She was being soaked but then all power to her she realised they had the hose set up so snuck off nabbed hose and utterly drowned them when they came for her next.... went down in local history as there were about 40 adults at the event as well

How about setting up the garden ready for his return from work with hose... and perhaps joining in yourself so its not so one sided.
