To ask about nursery

Sorry posting for traffic. My son starts nursery on Thursday. I was told he is to attend 5 days a week. Seems a lot. I thought it was only 2/3 days a week. Is this a lot? He is 3 and a half. Also if I wanted to keep him off for the day would it only be allowed for illness? (like with school)

Attendance isn't compulsory but the more formal environments will expect an explanation about absence.

Nobody can make you take your child to nursery.
Do you mean he is getting 5 days funded? Do you and your partner both work over 16 hours?

I don't understand who is making you have him there 5 days rather than your preferred 2/3 days.

I asked how many days a week he would go (all new to me so wasn't sure) and she said 5 which I wasn't expecting. So just wondered if that was a lot as didn't realise it would be every day.

Do they expect you to pay for 5 days? They should have made that clear when you signed up.

Eh? The nursery don't tell you how many days, you tell them

That's the norm here in Wales. 5x mornings or afternoons until they are 4 and then full time. It's not compulsory but they suggest full attendance like a school.
Ds fell under target with attendance and was sent letters and had to attend meetings.

Perhaps the nursery worker meant they operate 5 days a week?! Surely?

I am single and not working. Ex isn't involved. Not sure what the drip feed is? I'm asking how often kids go to nursery as I wanted him to go maybe 2/3 times a week but when I asked how often she said 5 days a week Monday-Friday she didn't say however often you want or whatever so got the impression he had to attend everyday. Unless ill.

But have they told you the start and end times?

I honestly dont know how you can not know this stuff. Didnt they give you any info? Could you not have clarified things further when they said itto you.

At our local nurseries that offer the funded hours they tend to offer 5x mornings or afternoons.

My just turned 3 year old is starting school nursery next week, 5 mornings a week. He has a uniform and they expect his attendance to stay above a certain percentage.

If you're in Scotland the norm for a nursery attached to a school would be 5 half days per week. I don't think it's compulsory but you'd be expected to explain absences.

All 3 year olds get 15 funded hours in England (not sure about elsewhere) so yes it's usual for children to go 5 days for 3 hours or 2/3 longer days. You don't have to send him but they will want reasonable attendance to justify his place/funding.

If it's funded I understand they will have spaces certain times, but it isn't compulsory to use the funding.

I didn't know if it was normal or not, first time sending. Not in wales no. It's 12.45 to 3.45 but even then I was told by the receptionist I could collect him sooner as school for my other finishes at 3.25 but when the lady came round my house and I said it to her she said no.
