To call 101 for this?

I've NCd for this, just to be on the safe side.

I have just witnessed what I presume to be a (minor) drug deal when picking my DC up from nursery. It was about 20m away and across the road from the nursery building. Car pulls up near some behoodied teenage boys, one goes round the other side, one leans into the passenger window. Couldn't quite see, but it looked like the teen gave the driver something out of a fag packet. Car then drives off, turns round and speeds back and off, really fast. I have his reg. Bloody ridiculous driving with so many kids around, too.

I saw something similar last week with a couple of teenage girls. This is about 300m away from the local primary school, quietish roads, back of the shops.

Do I call 101 or just leave it be?

I'd call 999 if you thought you'd seen drugs being dealt. Where we live there are a lot of drug deals, our local police have told us to always call 999- it's a crime and they should be arrested. If you have their reg they won't be hard to track down and get to the bottom of whether they're doing anything dodgy or not.

putdownyourphone · 12/09/2017 18:04

I really really doubt the police will investigate someone dealing what was probably a bit of weed on your word. You sound a bit naive.

NotAgainYoda · 12/09/2017 18:05

You ca report it online.

Alittlepotofrosie · 12/09/2017 18:05

Can't hurt to call them. I wouldn't call 999 though. It's not a crime in progress.

FenceSitter01 · 12/09/2017 18:06

They wont bother. All you're doing is pushing up the crime stats.

Witchend · 12/09/2017 18:06

Putdown. I reported. It was investigated and the person found.

MrsHathaway · 12/09/2017 18:07

Dashcam? Ours is remarkably high resolution so could be of use.

With just your say-so, what can they do?

Bekabeech · 12/09/2017 18:08

I'd report it, especially as near a school.
They probably won't get anyone, but a bit of police presence will make the dealers move somewhere else (and get rid of silly drivers).

nodogsinthebedroom · 12/09/2017 18:09

Call 101 or report it online. It's unlikely to be enough in itself to cause them to go and arrest the registered keeper of the car (for example) but it builds up an intelligence picture.

WeeFreeWoman · 12/09/2017 18:09

I was on foot, about 5m away from them. But I didn't really want my head kicked in or anything so wasn't staring.

We've recently had a few letters from the local fuzz asking us to report all anti-social behaviour, but I can't find the bloody thing!

Report it either on 101 or online. You have the car registration. If nothing else it can be used for intelligence. You never know it may be a well known car to the police and of interest. It may also if the details are correct and up to date the driver/owner who may also be of interest. They may do some patrols at the relevant times etc. Nothing to lose and it is near a school which the police I'm sure will take seriously.

carjacker1985 · 12/09/2017 18:12

Even dealing "a bit of weed" is still illegal! You have a reg, it's not like police couldn't track them down. Arrests happen for this sort of thing quite regularly where I live. I'd absolutely report it, especially if it's happening near a nursery.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2017 18:17

crimestoppers.

coffeekittens · 12/09/2017 18:24

101 or crimestoppers. They may already have details of said car from similar reports.

I reported a driver infront of me at a mcdonalds drive thru to 101. They were driving irratically and taking forever at the drive through, once it was my turn the member of staff at mcdonalds apologised saying they think that the driver & passengers were high. I had no solid evidence but acted from instinct and gut feeling. Once the information is with the police it's upto them how they handle it.

FWIW 99% of these 'should I call 101' or posters telling an OP to call 101 I usually look at as hysterical busy bodied bollocks.

Bluntness100 · 12/09/2017 18:31

Do not call 999 it is not an emergency.

Cal 101, Tell them, they will log it. It might come in useful if they are watching anyone,

They will do fuck all though. My daughter called them after watching a neighbours car being stolen.literally within a minute. They said thanks but until the owner complains we can't do anything. Genuinely that's what they said. By the time the neighbour came back next day it was too late. All they had to do was put a message out on the radio. Nope. Did absolutely nothing.

WeeFreeWoman · 12/09/2017 18:32

I've made a Crimestoppers report.

I hope I'm not a naive busybody - I just really don't like the thought of this going on near so many young kids and elderly people in the retirement bungalows opposite, especially driving like that. Anyway, I've done my upstanding citizen bit for today! They can use the information or not.

I was never going to call 999!

Ttbb · 12/09/2017 18:45

Absolutely call.

Redglitter · 12/09/2017 19:55

Crimestoppers was a good option. They're not going to go and track the car/driver down based on your report but it will be intelligence logged. It could be the final piece of Intel they need to take further action
