To go to the Walk In for a rash?

NapQueen · 11/09/2017 22:36

Since thursday I have had a pretty painful itchy rash across and around my things and up one upper arm.

Google isnt helping (and I probably shouldnt have googled anyways). Thinking it was maybe a reaction to something I thought id hang on and see if it went.

Arm rash gone. Legs rash worsening. Ideally I think I ought to see the GP but with my commute I am out of house 30 mins before it opens until 30 mins after it closes.

Wibu to go to the walk in tomorrow evening? Is this what its for? I dont want to waste their time and if they ask why I havent just seen a GP and I say because of work theyll think im not that bothered.

Wwyd?

I have used a walk in because I couldn't make it to the GP due to work. I have also gone to one after work because something was worsening during the day and I didn't want to leave it overnight.
They are fine with that. That is what they are for.

StarlitTrees · 11/09/2017 22:44

That's not at all what they're for.
They're not there for your convenience. They're there for medical issues that cannot wait until day time hours for your GP to deal with!

Please use the NHS appropriately, it's already on its knees and we all need to do what we can to keep it afloat.

Its painful enough that the duvet resting on my skin is stinging.

I would visit the gp but unfortunately they are not open whilst I am available to attend. And if it was urgent enough to tale time off work then fine, but I dont think it is. However I do believe it needs checking by a doctor or nurse.

You could pop in and see a pharmacist? They're pretty good at rashes and can prescribe. The supermarket ones are open late.

NapQueen · 11/09/2017 22:49

Do they have somewhere private for me to remove my trousers? If they do, it sounds the ideal option.

Starlit
Walk-in centres are for people who urgently need to see a GP and who can't get an appointment. Surely that encompasses people who can't get an appointment at a time they are able to attend.
Your comments about daytime hours doesn't make sense as walk-in are open during the day as well.

StarlitTrees · 11/09/2017 22:55

Yes pharmacies have private consultation rooms. I hope it gets sorted for you soon.

StarlitTrees · 11/09/2017 22:58

chazs I appreciate that. But it's not that she can't get an appointment at her GP, it's that she's not willing to take time off work for it. If there aren't any appointments available for her to see a GP that would be different and a WiC attendance would be appropriate.

BirdBrain85 · 11/09/2017 22:58

Yes, NapQueen, as Starliy says they have private rooms. Hope you get it sorted x

NapQueen · 11/09/2017 22:59

I would take time off if I was unwell because of it or unable to do my work. But I feel well and it is not affecting my ability to work.

hiphopcat · 11/09/2017 22:59

Sounds like thrush OP.

Can you go consult a pharmacist?

NapQueen · 11/09/2017 22:59

Thanks, I will try a Pharmacist

Well, if it's urgent enough to take time off work - then GP or walk-in (if you must).

If you're still OK at work, it doesn't need a walk-in!

SlB09 · 11/09/2017 23:01

If you have tried everything yourself (antihistamines, hydrocortisone cream etc) and its painful enough to not want bed covers on it with no obvious cause and you genuinely cant get to gp surgery then yes use the WIC - it is for minor illness and/or injury. It doesnt sound serious given the time frame but if you are uncomfortable or in pain then you do need it assessing.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/09/2017 23:02

It depends on her job. If you are on a zero hours contract and attending the GP will cost you a day's pay then it's not so simple.

Mind you my use of WiC is usually due to my unerring ability to develop a raging uti on a weekend.

NapQueen · 11/09/2017 23:04

Is thrush found on legs and arms?

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 11/09/2017 23:10

Everyone here seems to be assuming that the OP would be able to get an appointment straight away at her surgery. At mine, unless you claim it's serious, it will be 2-3 weeks. Frankly this is what I would see WICs as being for: the OP has to wait around but can be seen for a minor condition that doesn't merit A&E but can't wait ages either.

hiphopcat · 11/09/2017 23:12

Yes thrush can affect anywhere @NapQueen. usually warm and moist places, but it can form other places too.

hiphopcat · 11/09/2017 23:16

This is an article about it

www.healthline.com/health/skin/cutaneous-candidiasis#overview1

See if any of this applies to you, or if it looks like it.

Good luck.

WishfulThanking · 11/09/2017 23:57

Stinging itchy rash? It's not shingles, is it? But then it wouldn't fit with the rash being on your arm too. Unless that's a seperate coincidental rash.

NapQueen · 12/09/2017 18:44

Been to the Pharmacist who has said it could be a number of things, and to see a doctor. I suggested walk in this evening to which she agreed. So Im sat waiting now.

I think what you've done - pharmacist and then walk in is a good idea.

I had a weird rash abroad and went to a pharmacist who wasn't sure and pointed me at a local doctor.

Apparently I had a skin infection and needed 2 weeks of antibiotics ! It apparently could have become quite nasty if I'd left it. I hadn't wanted to make a fuss since I was on holiday and was going home in a week.

Since none of us can see you I think seeking advice was the right option.

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 12/09/2017 19:03

I think a rash is a perfectly good reason to go to a WIC. It's not like the OP asked if she could go to A&E.

AgathaMystery · 12/09/2017 20:21

You poor thing OP. I had something similar recently. Drove me demented. I saw 3 pharmacists and 2 practice nurses and 1 GP over 8 days. Finally a GP spotted a herald spot and It was immediately diagnosed as pityriasis rosea and it was terrible. Confused
