About how to thank NHS staff?

Yeah, it's not really an AIBU, but I'm a whore for traffic.

I had a very very positive birth experience recently, and I felt my midwives went above and beyond to support me, and that overall the care I received was exceptional. How to say thank you?

My trust doesn't allow gifts beyond "fruit" (the example they give). I was thinking:

  • write to both MWs personally to express my thanks
  • write to head of midwifery at the trust/hospital naming all the people I can think of and saying what a great job they did.

Anything else? If you work for the NHS is there anything in particular you'd like/which can help in your appraisals or whatever? I'm happy to send a fruit subscription/pizza subscription/whatever else, I just don't know what's wanted. Donation in MWs' names to a midwifery/childbirth charity?

Please don't tell me that I'm being over the top or whatever, I feel these people did something exceptional for me and I want to acknowledge that.

It's really lovely when people take the time to thank for good care within the NHS.

I'm a registered nurse. We appreciate nice cards and letters as it goes in our personal files and we can also use it in evidence when revalidating our membership with The Nursing and Midwifery Council. Its a lovely change hearing people like you praising instead of criticising.

We gave card, chocolate and flowers to my midwife with my first labour. She was great, made labour that little bit more pleasant.

Oh, that's great. I've often (lots of family medical dramas) taken in coffees/teas/posh biscuits (including savoury ones). For a long stay, I arranged for a case of wine (in my defence, it made reference to the hospital's location which my morphine-addled state thought v apt) with a note that the ward manager should distribute as he saw fit. As it happened, he said there was going to be a staff picnic shortly so he asked if it could be used for that. I was really pleased.

I took in boxes of chocolates for both of the shifts who covered my labour and cards each to say thank you. Unfortunately none of them were there when I took them so I was bit worried the person I handed them to would not pass them on. But I tried

We love a thank you card...and Krispy creme donuts!

We love people popping in with cards and we absolutely love getting biscuits or chocolates. We wouldn't get overly excited about a pen.... sorry.
