to be peed off about the number of deleted threads?

My thread choice is pretty random. I don't hang around particular boards, but loads of threads I have been on have been deleted for who knows what reasons. There have been 2 in 24 hours.
Clearly I need to hang out in gardeners' corner then there wouldn't be any issues...or would there?

Op, I agree. I am also not certain that the soubtiquet "troll" and even "bully" isn't sometimes levelled at people who hold views you don't like. MN is increasingly censoring not just stuff that is unnecessary and upsetting, but also stuff that just doesn't suit their geneal prejudices (IMHO)

ProperLavs · 12/09/2017 14:03

I just saw that the grammar school one was for privacy. Another one bites the dust!

What happened with the cat one ?

Jengnr · 12/09/2017 14:11

I'm not sure why 'troll' threads are deleted tbh. Obviously if a subject is incredibly sensitive I get it but the common or garden ones, who cares?

There was one deleted today about a woman with a controlling partner. The deletion message said 'we couldn't be sure the poster was real'. I didn't get to the end so I don't know if anything ridiculous happened but, assuming it didn't, surely one can't be sure about anybody? And that situation was common enough that it might have given someone else good advice.

And the parking or neighbour ones that people call troll on? So fucking what? They're usually pretty funny, no harm done, what's the problem?

steppemum · 12/09/2017 14:17

one was deleted this morning.
It was a thread I had posted a lot on, and was very ineterested in, and wanted to support OP.

She asked for it to be taken down as it was veyr identifying, and it was about her ds school. She felt it was likely to prejudice the school against her if it was seen, and it was quite likely to be picked up by DM.

So, while I am disappointed, I do understand

GinasGirl · 12/09/2017 14:18

Can I ask what happened to the one where the OP asked if her daughter needed stitches. The photo made me gasp!
I then read post after post of 'YES! get her to A&E'
I watched the thread to see if she did, as it really upset me that her DP was refusing to take the child, but was certain she'd sort something out seeing as everyone was adamant that she needed to go.
Went to check later that day and it had gone!

InsomniacAnonymous · 12/09/2017 14:22

That was a troll, GinasGirl. Presumably someone checked and saw that the photo was on Google or something, so the OP wasn't genuine.

CockacidalManiac · 12/09/2017 14:22

The lesson is, as MN continually advises us, is not to give more of yourself on a thread than you should. Don't get overinvested, quite a high proportion of these threads are bollocks (as shown by the fact that they get pulled).

NoSquirrels · 12/09/2017 14:25

Jengr the reason a lot of "not real" troll threads are deleted is because other posters share their own personal circumstances/histories/lives in response. So a thread about a controlling husband, from a PBP, for instance, leads people to generously offer their time & emotional energy & personal stories into something/someone just doing it for kicks. It encourages people to "share more of themselves than they're willing to lose".

Most people want to help a genuine person in distress. They don't want to be tricked into it.

There are plenty of real threads about controlling partners, the fake Ines do t need to stand too in order for MN to help people.

Poppypooch · 12/09/2017 14:28

I was on a cleaning thread once please don't judge Grin and it got deleted Hmm I love the gardening threads too

Aridane · 12/09/2017 14:32

Off to gardening to pretend my dahlias have greenfly when they really don't

Love it Grin

KurriKurri · 12/09/2017 14:35

I find it hard to tell as a well - I mean I can spot the obvious ones - they generally fall into two categories, creepy and weird and about knickers or similar, or so wildly outlandish they can't be true.

But some are just completely pointless, not even very interesting or controversial, and you think what's the point, if you're going write something dull write something that's dull and true

GinasGirl · 12/09/2017 14:37

Thanks insomniac to be honest I'm really glad that one wasn't true!

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 12/09/2017 14:39

Urgh, just signed in to discover two threads I spent time contributing to have been zapped. Honestly, I need to quit bothering. Not much point really.

InsomniacAnonymous · 12/09/2017 14:41

Yes I was glad it wasn't true too, GinasGirl

Jengnr · 12/09/2017 15:31

nosquirrels I take your point about the controlling partner one but what about the parking/neighbour wars/ridiculous situation ones?

NoSquirrels · 12/09/2017 17:14

Jengr I don't know what the MNHQ rules are, but I guess it's that if you're a PBP the rule is you are banned, no matter how funny/entertaining your thread is. You can't really expect the moderators to draw an arbitrary opinion-based line in the sand about which threads from PBPs get zapped. They are banned from posting > they are discovered posting > thread is gone.
