To leave sick teen home alone?

Son (early teen) threw up in the night after complaining of a dodgy tummy all weekend. He'll be off today, probably back in tomorrow.

AIBU to leave him on his own until 4pm?

Depends how he is now. If he vomits again or seems to have a temperature, I think I'd hang around, if he just seems to be recovering I'd go.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/09/2017 08:00

would depend on his age and level of illness for me

just 13 and puking his guts up - no

18 and sleeping it off - yes

RonSwansonsMoustache · 11/09/2017 08:05

Yeah, of course leave him. I'm sure he's capable of being sick a bowl, getting himself some water or some crackers or something.

I don't know many employers who would be very happy if you rang in to look after a teenager who had a stomach bug, either!

Depends on the age of teen.
Some teens are adults Confused

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 11/09/2017 08:07

I have but only when I knew they would just be sleeping (plus I am 15 mins away and only doing a 5 hour shift). That teen is very responsible though. Can't imagine being able to do that with my younger two when they are teens.
So it comes down to really:
How sick they are
How mature they are
How sacked you'll be
How fast you can get to them if they take a turn for the worse

welshweasel · 11/09/2017 08:08

Yes I'd definitely leave him. Make sure he's got everything he needs within reach and call a couple of times to check on him. If he gets worse then you go home.

DragonBone · 11/09/2017 08:13

I'd think it's ok so long as you can call him to check in every cpl of hours and that he can call you and get through if he needs to.

Sofa day - Netflix - lots of water/snacks (make up some sandwiches)

Hope he's feeling better.

48 hour rule can apply to secondary school, because it does at ours, and when there's a vomiting bug doing the rounds locally we get reminder emails about it.

I try not to leave teens alone on the first day of an illness or when they are still actively chucking up. But I would go out if necessary.

Can you shorten your working day at all? If you can go in a bit late, perhaps knowing that the vomming has passed and DS is resting, you'd feel rather better about leaving him for a (slightly shortened) while.
