To complain to Airbnb?

Planned a short break to an amazing house right next to a private beach, with some friends. Got to the house and it hadn't been cleaned, as in full bin, food in sink, dirty toilets etc. Got message from owner shortly after apologising as the cleaner was sick. He said he would reimburse cleaning fee, he also popped around while we were out and did maybe 5 mins cleaning. Then we discovered there is no cold water/drinking water in the kitchen tab. Called him, he apologised and said he would be around in a few hours to fix it. That was 2 days ago! Not answering my calls since. Half the bulbs don't work, lots of handles have fallen off things, doors don't close...

Now the house is fab, or it definitely was originally. Worth well over a million with really high quality appliances, furnishings, brilliant fun things for the kids, indoor swings, hammocks etc. But it hasn't been looked after properly at all and I have definitely paid way too much for this experience.
I was planning to negotiate with the owner to get maybe a night or two extra for free in lieu of the crap we have had to deal with in the house but I can't contact him. Should I contact Airbnb to complain and maybe get some of my money back as the place is not as advertised? Because we are with friends we are still having a brilliant time and would love to stay longer, I just hate the amount of money I have handed over to get this level of customer service

Not to have running water is rubbish. I would complain directly to airbnb. Don't try to negotiate with him anymore.

Definitely complain direct to Airbnb. Sounds awful. I'd be demanding a huge chunking money back. I mean no drinking water in kitchen for several days on it's own it's unacceptable!

balinesecat · 10/09/2017 11:42

Take photos/videos of the problems. And yes go to Airbnb direct.

That's the thing, the house is really brilliant and I already cleaned the place cause I wouldn't have been able to stay otherwise! And we have bought lots of bottled water so it's just bugging me that I paid a high price but had to put up with this. I would definitely love to stay longer but if I can't contact him then I will try get my money back through Airbnb instead. Will take photos of the grime and broken stuff

You must definitely contact Airbnb! You should have at least 50% refund for having to clean it yourself.

churchilllounge · 10/09/2017 13:04

I'd complain but good luck. Their customer service is dreadful.

emmyrose2000 · 10/09/2017 13:04

I'd also claim back for the bottled water and any other expenses you've incurred as a direct result of this shameful experience.

gunsandbanjos · 10/09/2017 13:06

Definitely complain, that's a real shame.

holidayrental · 12/09/2017 17:54

Got 50% refund and cleaning fee. Happier now.

Excellent, hopefully that'll focus the hosts mind a little more.
