My friend purchased an item with her membership card for me (with a discount). It should have cost £30 but with her discount only cost her £20.
She is insisting I pay her £30 as I'm a non member and not entitled to the discount Hmm
She offered to buy it for me as she had a discount in the first place!!

AIBU to not pay £30? She's currently not speaking to me as I said I felt I should only have to pay £20.

AIBU?! Confused

You are right to be annoyed at this.
What sort of friend does this?
Tell her you will buy direct if you have not already gave her the money and then keep her at arms length.

expatinscotland · 09/09/2017 23:45

What Doris said. Don't give her anything.

crazywriter · 09/09/2017 23:49

Wownshes a cunt. My friend offered to buy us tickets for a few things with her work discount and charged us the price she paid for it all.

This woman isn't your friend and is looking to profit from you. Tell her where to go.

Shumpalumpa · 10/09/2017 01:14

Well done for not paying £30.

There was a similar thread about a woman who's friend let her use her 50% off voucher but then wanted her friend to give her £10.

Wow. Chancer. She is not your friend

silverbell64 · 10/09/2017 01:20

How long have you known your "friend"?

Chickenagain · 10/09/2017 07:55

Offer her £10, its second hand now!

SouthWestmom · 10/09/2017 10:02

I don't understand the Boots thing - is that like an employee card?

NoSquirrels · 10/09/2017 10:12

The only reason she's bought something for you is to save you £10.

And now she wants that £10?

Weird and very graspy. Tell her you've changed your mind and give her nothing.

I think we have the same "friend".
Mine told me about some great wipes on offer at just 50p each and offered to pick me some up. I said "Great, here's £2. Thanks" She bought me 2 packs and kept the extra £1 for going.

A quid. She ripped me off for a measly quid. Whatevs.

Another time she asked me if I wanted some brand new boots for my daughter that her kid didn't want. She kinda railroaded me into buying them because she didn't want to take them all the way back and just wanted what she paid. I reluctantly agreed. They weren't that nice and were £20. Got them home and found she'd forgotten to take the receipt out. It said she had paid half price. Ripped me off for £10 that time. Pocket my change really but if a friend will rip you off for such a small amount they are not a friend.

OP, ditch your friend like I did mine. You can do it two ways. Pay her for the item and forget all about her or do it properly and tell her she is a CF, go buy it yourself and let her go to all the trouble of returning hers. And tell the shop she is a member of that she's trying to profit from her discounts.
