AIBU to want to use my computer when I turn it on?

About an hour ago I switched my laptop on to get some work done. Bloody Windows updates.... only 75% done. The screen helpfully poibts out "this will take a while" well, no shit Sherlock. Am I being unreasonable to want to turn my laptop on and actually be able to do stuff?

YADNBU

I even choose the "update and restart" option on the appropriate weekday but still it twats about when I come to log on.

An hour, though. I'd be giving it a Daddy Pig tbh.

You can disable them (at your own risk). My laptop would die if I allowed them. I'm gambling it will die more slowly of potential virus than of windows update (I have virus protection of course).

Should add my laptop is so old it is Windows 7. Limping along til Christmas.....

Smile Smile Is this a thing, is it a Mumsnet thing?

I don't watch Peppa Pig (our son isn't interested in television) so I've seen very few episodes, but did see the one where Daddy Pig fixed the computer by switching it off and on again ... and fell about laughing ... I'll now start calling it a "Daddy Pig" Grin

Sorry Blush I think it's a me and DH thing. But clearly you're familiar with the concept so it isn't completely opaque!

MrsHathaway · 09/09/2017 21:41

And Daddy Pig in other episodes variously "mends" other electronics including a CAR WASH by turning it on and off again so it's kind of a Thing in Peppa Pig, yes.

Don't even go there, mine took 4 hours Shock

MissWimpyDimple · 09/09/2017 21:44

Yep. About an hour here too. What an utter load of crap.

Buy a Mac. Windows is bollocks

UpLighter · 09/09/2017 21:53

Sure you are just joking but turning off whilst it configures a update can cause issues.

Ugh I had this - when I bought this laptop which is getting on a bit I chose not to have Windows 10 but an earlier version. One day I turned it on and it informed me it was updating to Windows 10 - I tried everything to stop it but to no avail. What seemed like several hours later (but was probably about 20 - 30 mins) it then asked me to accept the download. I clicked on no and it then took another bloody long time to uninstall it. Honestly I think it has a mind of its own.
