What do you do with your young children? Do you wipe their mouths and hands every mouthful or once they have finished?

Bit of a debate going on...

It was 'House of tiny tearaways' with Tanya Byron, Red
Yes, I was thinking that the constant wiping is a GREAT way to promote food-related anxiety and eating problems, too.

"I wipe the baby between main and pudding"

Please let this be a joke.

Seniorcitizen1 · 09/09/2017 17:31

I use a napkin on my mouth after every mouthful but never did with my son only at end of meal

Craigie · 09/09/2017 17:32

I don't wipe my children when they're eating, it's food not toxic waste.

Wingbing · 09/09/2017 17:33

My mum tries to wipe DCs between mouthfulls. She is all about appearances

Hated pushing a muddy prom or commented if there was a speck of dirt on their clothes.

I say pick you battles.

I barely wipe them once they're done tbh. My kids are scruffy
Iittle monsters and if it isn't food it's something else.

Keeping them clean is like one of those Greek afterlife punishments and I just don't care that much :)

Can't believe people would hover over children and keep wiping and them while they're trying to eat, must get really annoying having someone keep dabbing at you.

So what if they get food in their hair and on their chins. What exactly do these people think will happen.

When my DCs were small a lot of my friends would say they would never cook with their children or let them paint in the house because of the mess. Same sort of thinking I suppose.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/09/2017 17:41

clearly after every mouthful... Wink

Lules · 09/09/2017 17:49

Toddler doesn't like his hands being too dirty so I wipe them. He doesn't care about his face so I leave that to the end.

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 09/09/2017 17:52

Why every mouthful? I'd go bloody potty if someone was doing that to me! After all good has been eaten in this house unless it's bath time

ProseccoMamam · 09/09/2017 18:26

If I wiped after every mouthful we would be eating breakfast at 10am. Who on earth does that. Do the big clean up of the high chair and the floor and the child once the kitchen has been truly trashed, and by the time you've done that it's tea timeGrin
