To be able to "like" lovely comments

Does anyone else think it would be lovely if we could acknowledge certain comments on MN with a little "like". Some comments are so lovely and helpful that i wish i could just give a thumbs up. Anyone else?

"Like"

bruffin · 09/09/2017 15:42

I dont think it is necessary. If you like the comment then just say so.

Elllicam · 09/09/2017 15:42

I would like to like comments too :) I don't want to clutter up a thread by posting.

LairyMcClary · 09/09/2017 15:43

No. And your title is missing some words. And should be in site stuff.

LittleBearPad · 09/09/2017 15:43

No, this isn't Facebook.

Babyblues14 · 09/09/2017 15:46

I think there should be an agree and disagree option instead of having to post and argue with people. You see a lot of that on here now

SavoyCabbage · 09/09/2017 15:48

I wouldn't want this as I read the threads like a conversation so it would be like a load of people putting their thumbs up when someone spoke for me. Rather than saying 'that's a good point about butter beans. They are delicious'

Also, there is a danger of it becoming a popularity contest and posters feeling left out if others didn't 'like' their posts and it's supposed to be an inclusive site.

alpineway · 09/09/2017 15:52

Ok ok, just a thought, why not in aibu though lairy, you sound a bit terse.

TanteRose · 09/09/2017 15:56

One day, a "like" button, the next tickers and glittery shit...it's a slippery slope

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/09/2017 15:59

It would be interesting, and possibly helpful, in AIBU to have a quick way of 'voting' YABU or YANBU, rather than getting involved in the inevitable bunfight, iyswim...

TanteRose · 09/09/2017 16:05

Well, you just have to write YABU or YANBU - very quick and no need to comment

Needalifeoverhaul · 09/09/2017 16:11

You sound like a lovely person alpine and I know exactly what you mean. I've read so many mean and spiteful comments on threads today that when you do come across a really helpful and positive post it would be nice to somehow highlight it.

FallingOrbit · 09/09/2017 16:13

Only if we can have a "you're a bellend" button too.

MrsHathaway · 09/09/2017 16:54

A nice way to highlight it is to drop the poster a pm saying "your post on such and such a thread was great".

Or quote it on the thread and say so.

A bit of effort. Clicking up/down is brainless.

Shumpalumpa · 09/09/2017 17:04

I think you like/dislike buttons could be used as a form of bullying, or to shut someone up. Better to comment and articulate why you like or dislike something.

Like!

alpine, I'm afraid that this subject has been done to death many times over many years and the consensus is a resounding 'No'. Even from MNHQ, which is why Lairy suggested you check out Site Stuff www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?mustmatch=like+button&dontmatch=&nickname=&src_displ_option=s_m_d_m&fromDate=&toDate=&topicmode=chs&chosentops=1374

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2017 18:48

YY this really has been done to death. Thankfully MNHQ have so far said absolutely not.

They want the place to be about Chat after all.

It would end up like the Daily Mail comments section.
