WIBU to carry on smiling

At a meeting today speaking to someone from another organisation. The lady was very polite and informative but just did not smile (had quite a serious face) when speaking to me or the others. I felt a bit strange but carried on with a smiling face, my colleague thinks I looked a bit silly. WIBU (the conversation was mundane and nothing serious)

She mentioned that she had had a really good summer holiday, so don't think there were any other issues

If your colleague felt the need to mention it, you might have been a bit over the top.

There's something a bit unnerving and false about Hilary Clinton style manic grinning and nodding.

It makes people think you are not actually listening to them.

Unless the meeting was about something very sad or upsetting, YANBU. A smile costs nothing!

Did you literally smile non-stop for the entire conversation? Do you always do that?

I think most people just sort of smile intermittently, don't they? I think for your colleague to notice that you were non-stop smiling, you might perhaps have gone a bit over the top?

Perhaps it might have looked a bit sarcastic or unnerving for the other speaker if you had a fixed grin for the duration of the meeting rather than just smiling in the natural breaks in the conversation or when you greet someone/say something funny or whatever.
